I’m going to try out xert, I already use zwift and rouvy, but I’d like to know which one you recommend to use with xert, like the advantages of one over the other.
This guide explains options available with Zwift –
The Ultimate Guide to Training with Xert and Zwift – Xert
Rouvy is similar although rather than sync within Xert you would login to the Rouvy app, select Menu, Connected Apps, Xert, Connect, and Authorize the Xert connections.
The three possible modes of operation are:
A) Ride Xert workouts using a Xert player (EBC or Garmin player) and connect power only to Zwift or Rouvy so you can ride around in their worlds.
This retains all SMART workout features since the Xert player controls the workout.
B) Sync WOTD (workout of the day) with Zwift or Rouvy to ride the workout converted to %FTP intervals within those apps.
This means some SMART workouts will have intervals there are easier or harder than they would be on a Xert player but the result meets the strain goal for the day.
C) Pair everything in Zwift, Rouvy, etc. then pair everything except your smart trainer to a Garmin Edge head unit. Then use Xert Magic Bullets to acheive the XSS goal for the day (aka fill the buckets).
This works whether you select a workout or rely on the XSS goal for the day (no workout selected).
I don’t think there is any particular advantage between Zwift and Rouvy. It’s more which platform you prefer the most for entertainment and/or social interaction.
Well, that was my question, so I now know that using Zwift or Rouvy is the same, it depends on each person’s taste.
I use Rouvy with my Garmin 1040 and magic buckets. Works great and I prefer it over Zwift for the real world videos.
In rouvy we also have the Forecast AI report?
I am not sure what you mean by Forecast AI report in Rouvy. Forecast AI workouts can be pushed to Rouvy but I do not use it that way. I prefer to use Magic Buckets with free riding in Rouvy to get my daily XSS.
I’m talking about having the report on Strava, even if you’re doing the training on Rouvy, if we have that too.
Like this:
Yes, it will show up but may be dependent on how your connections are configured. I do not connect Rouvy with Strava. I have Rouvy connected to XERT and then I have XERT push my activities to Strava.
Ok thanks.
Hi @ffiorentino can I ask how you have your connections setup? I’ve got a smart trainer, xert, 1040 and rouvy (I don’t use strava).
Can you explain a bit further if you don’t mind. I’ve got rouvy connected to xert, and use the rouvy app which syncs to xert.
To what (I use a andriod tablet) do I pair my 1040, if not the smart trainer.
My end goal is to be able to ride xert buckets in rouvy world (not the workouts).
Thanks in advance.
For Magic Buckets you would connect Rouvy to power only on your trainer (or power meter on your bike if your trainer bike has that) and ignore the workout sync steps.
Select whatever route you want to ride in Rouvy.
On the Garmin you’ll be free riding indoors (no trainer control, just pair with power) then follow Magic Buckets guidance to complete your training.
If you select or schedule a workout on XO that workout’s XSS target will be fetched by XMB.
If you don’t select or schedule a workout on XO the top-level XSS target will be fetched instead.
Set your trainer to resistance mode (slope or resistance % you can adjust) and use gears/cadence to hit target watts on XMB.
I have XERT connected to Rouvy and Rouvy connected to my Wahoo KICKR via bluetooth (I also use the Rouvy companion app). I let Rouvy control the resistance to mirror the course I am riding. The 1040 is connected to the KICKR via ANT+ so I can use magic buckets to reach my daily training goals.
Thanks @ffiorentino and @ridgerider2 for your reply.
@ffiorentino this is the setup I was hoping would work. The missing step for me is connecting the 1040 to trainer as power only (ant+).
I’ll give it a shot either tonight or tomorrow.
Thanks guys.
