Hi all.
Xert recommends me the following workout: “SMART - Elastic Heart - 3.5”, my question is can I use “Xert Workout player” installed on my garmin 840 on an outdoor route? or is it intended for indoor use only?
thanks!
Hi all.

You can use the Connect IQ player outdoors, but Magic Buckets (XMB) would get the job done in a more efficient manner that is expressly designed to handle terrain and traffic issues when riding outdoors.
Magic Buckets will default to shorter, higher watt intervals to achieve the target low/high/peak XSS. But you can execute the intervals in the manner you prefer.
For example, Elastic Heart is traditional 5x5 VO2 intervals at lower watts at longer duration. SMART targets in this case are 5-minute 60% reserve MPA intervals (105-120% TP depending on your signature) and 5-minute 99% PP MPA intervals for recovery.
With Magic Buckets you could try executing intervals like that if your route supports the longer effort but you can also combine those efforts with shorter intervals as suggested by Magic Buckets. XMB will dynamically adjust as your complete each interval.
For example, the guidance may start out estimating you need to complete 23 Magic Buckets intervals, but your first long interval at lower watts will change that estimate for the time remaining. If executing the long intervals become impractical you can complete the workout following Magic Buckets guidelines to fill the remaining buckets.
Essentially Magic Buckets provides you with SMART intervals when riding outdoors that dynamically adjust depending on your efforts as terrain and traffic permit.
Note: It takes a few rides to appreciate how XMB works. Watch the how-to video before your first ride.
Thank you very much for your complete reply! I will go with XMB in that case and I will compare which one is more suitable for me.
