  1. NEW - Durability: The Hottest New Metric in Cycling!
The concept of durability as an important fitness metric has recently seen a lot of prominence and interest. At Xert, we had the concept of durability as part the system when it was first launched. Check out the new feature and stay tuned to more blogs, videos and podcasts on this exciting new feature to come out over time.

Note: Only activities greater than 2 hours can be analyzed for durability, ideally with a maximal effort late into the ride.

Where exactly are the durability buttons / features in the system? What page / view specifically?

Hi @ulty , you will find the Assess Durability option at the bottom of activity details page:

After assessing durability on the ride, some hard efforts late into rides that might not have looked very hard before, like this:

Will now likely be identified as Maximal Efforts:

As you hover on the chart, you’ll be able to see changes in your signature over time:

Note there are some caveats to getting a ‘valid’ durability score. Check the glossary post on durability score for more info!

Really good update, just used the magic buckets workout generator, worked like a charm, really like the ability to specify interval length.

Glad to hear you liked it! Even if I don’t end up using the workout, I find it a great way to visualize what the workout will look like at various Challenge Levels & view any differences in training duration.

It doesn’t show up for me. I’m guessing because I don’t have power data?

Only works for activities greater than 3 hours long with power data. Review the information page.

Hi folks,

Trying to work the Magic Buckets generator, and at the moment the “workout” feature is grayed out… ATAI also is suggesting doing a hard workout but also not suggesting anything above low strain for today. Am I just experiencing a bug?

Thanks!

Joseph Sullivan I believe you will only see the workout tab highlighted when you have selected a workout that has Hi and Peak values for the activity.

Appears to be a mismatch between the Focus Power and associated XSS.

I read the info page. It doesn’t mention power data anywhere. Only:

To properly assess durability scores, you should choose activities that are longer than 3 hours and activities where you know you felt you were at your limit after 3 or more hours. This could be from a final climb during a race and all-out 3 minute TT, for example. Just feeling tired at the end isn’t enough to assess durability. A max effort while fatigued from a long ride is necessary. Note that if you had a breakthrough during the activity, you may not be able assess your durability.

You can’t perform any level of MPA analysis without power data.
How often do I you ride long without power?

Wow! It looks like the team has been busy this month.

Great update! Loving copy and swap and the new AI workout generator.

For some reason my Activity page, first tab on my fitness panels, is showing blue aka fresh but my planner shows orange aka high energy tired. I’m pretty sure that latter is correct. Any ideas? It was working fine until this week.

Glad to hear you’re enjoying the new features!

To answer your question, looks like you were tired from your hard activities last night, but that your freshness returns by later in the day - notice the transition from Yellow to Blue in your planner & 3-day forecast:

Always as I don’t own a power meter. The feature’s not available for me; that’s OK. It was just confusing because I wasn’t seeing what was being described.

Interesting to see the Durability score!

Do you plan to develop this further? E.g. do you want to utilize this socre when calculating the XSS for a ride, when calculating breakthroughs, in Magic Bucket, +++. Now it seems like the durability score is used for the ride where the value was found, so it is not really a part of your fitness signature.

I’ve just activated the Durability Score using Carbs
It says I had an 18.7% decline per 50g of CHO. I used 238g and replenished 197g
Just wondering what it means and what use I can make of it.
Just to add I didn’t do any efforts that were close to maximal as it was a 6 hour ride.

Durability won’t really apply here in that case. The only way to get a valid durability score is to really push yourself to the limit later in the ride. The harder you can go several hours into a ride, the greater your durability is, by definition!
