From purely FTP based workout, the cloud API will be gaining the ability for integrators to push structured workouts into the platform[1] for use on head units.
Coming soon.
I’ve heard that from Wahoo before…
Yeah, I was only referring to FTP-based workout files in most of my comments. To add something like MPA on these devices definitely requires a lot more cooperation in the form of APIs or an entire ecosystem, as you call it, like Garmin has but, yeah, there’s no way in hell Wahoo will be doing that (and I don’t blame them at all). However, Wahoo could certainly add MPA as a field that only works if you Synced with Xert (to get the needed Fitness Signature data).
Yeah I’m pretty sure I saw references to that as far back as 2020, 2022 for sure, so I wouldn’t count on that happening anytime soon either.
It’s new. I also received an email yesterday from Humango asking for beta testers for testing their integration using it. (Well - they don’t say they are outright using that API, but it’s a safe bet since it appeared as coming soon and now Humango is beta testing direct integration)
JOIN launched pushing workouts into Wahoo, and now intervals.icu has launched it though states the API is beta:
https://forum.intervals.icu/t/planned-workouts-with-wahoo-what-a-pain/54795/50
So it is a real tangible thing.
Yup. Still in beta so hopefully something they make available more widely.
The documentation is now publicly available, and apps are able to request the appropriate permissions. Seems like it’s now widely available.
Plus 1 for lets get this working. The manual process is annoying and I do start riding outside and doing workouts this time of year
Plus 1 from me as well, having workouts on my wahoo would simplify my setup. Even though it might not feature all the XERT features, I’d be happy with the FTP-based trainings.
Would even be handy for simply running indoor workouts, using the head unit as the control device.
I don’t see a use case personally for things like grams of food or running estimates of various metrics. Just a controlled workout would be cool.
Can also see the outside benefit if there were mountain bike locations that support that too.
This is great, is there a full announcement? I would think many users will welcome this.
Also, does it mean you can update threshold automatically on Wahoo?
We don’t update any zones at the moment. Besides, zones and Xert’s power curve don’t always align or make sense even. We’ve moved beyond using zones and use low, high and peak XSS instead. Garmin devices support this for now with our new datafields.
Thanks, I understand that.
The estimated FTP from XERT is my golden reference and I update it manually in Wahoo, Strava and Zwift.
Would be cool if that happened automatically (if that is even possible)
I think Wahoo calculates automatically zones from FTP.
LOL, I started this thread in 2019??
Wahoo Started a long time ago. Wahoo has had bigger fish to fry over the years, especially with the Kickr being so popular. Resources towards creating a new Elemnt that would allow 3rd party integration has been on their wishlist but obviously never made it high enough as a priority for them. I wouldn’t bet on that changing any time soon.
So that won’t change with their new bike computer that should drop very soon? (The “ACE”).
Interesting. Bold move to add a wind sensor. All previous attempts at bringing a wind sensing product to market have failed. We could probably make pretty good use of it with our new XRP algorithm and group ride analysis. I suspect they’ve made this a key new feature. Opening up the unit to third party apps would be great if it happens but any third party would want to wait and see what the uptake is in the market first.
