Weekly Availability vs Pinned Low-Intensity Workouts in Planner

Hi everyone,

I’m currently planning my winter training in preparation for several events and races starting in late March 2027.

In the Program configuration, I typically set my goal to “Mixed Breakaway Specialist” with a target date of March 21, 2027. I have used this setup successfully over several seasons without any issues.

However, I’ve always had one question regarding weekly planning: twice a week (Wednesdays and Fridays), I cannot follow the prescribed Xert workouts because I do an indoor cycling/spinning class at the gym for about 50 minutes. Each session generates an average of roughly 33 XSS at low intensity.

Up until now, under “Weekly Availability”, I’ve indicated about one hour of available time for both of these days and then manually pinned these gym sessions into the Planner so they stay locked.

In terms of how the algorithm adapts the training load toward the target event, is it better to:

  1. Keep this availability and schedule the pinned lightweight sessions in advance, or
  2. Set availability to zero for these two days (treating them as scheduled rest days) and let Xert dynamically adjust the plan once the recorded activities are uploaded?

I’d appreciate any insights or recommended best practices from those with experience on this.
