As Xert states, progress is (only) reached by progressive overload. There will be a point where XFAI won’t be able to increase your focus power without spending more time. I cannot ask XFAI to reduce my focus power, so I cant make up a new plan with reduced limited time (winter, work). I cant see that Xert is giving me any advice other than asking for more time for training.
But what do you guys do as soon as you reach your personal limit for training time/recovery? How did you transition into winter training with reduced time?
Should I quit my job or leave my family to free more time for training and recovery?
You can increase XSS per hour setting to increase the difficulty on HIT days.
You can change Goal to a different Focus Duration and continue training with a new stimulus point on your power curve.
You can alternately switch to XATA Continuous or Challenge and do the same under your own control. Even if ramp rate is set to Maintenance and you’ve maxed out your hours can continue to improve your fitness.
Or simply lower TL (and expectations ) during winter off-season and take some time off the bike. Or complement your training with another activity. For example, more gym work and less cycling during the winter.
Even though TP will decline with a decrease in TL your numbers will return quickly enough when ready to resume at a higher TL.
I’m a believer in some downtime. If you want to peak best you need to start in a valley.
