Understanding a breakthrough

In this screenshot where does the 20 minute power, 286 in this case, come from? According to Strava my best 20 minutes from this ride was 218.

FYI. I found that it is the “Fitness Signature for this Activity” whose definition is “the highest possible power over the given set of durations you would technically have been capable on this date. The curve is calculated from your fitness signature and represents a theoretical power curve.”

TIP: Open an activity’s details and select Power Curve tab and you’ll see three curves – Current Fitness Signature plus MMP and Fitness Signature from this Activity.

Here’s an article that explains the three main types of BTs (push, pull, multiple) and a Near BT –
Breaking Through the Xert Way! – Xert

Today I did a workout in ERG mode. The workout indicates that ik will create a breakthrough. The resulting graph indeed shows power higher than MPA. However the result was a substantial decrease of FTP (-4%). How is this possible? I read the post on Xert breakthrough, but was not able to find an explanation.

Herewith two reports. Both seem to show breakthroughs and in both cases the FTP reported went down substantially. Thank you for letting me know how that works.

How well does your updated PP/HIE align with this chart?

A realignment of signature values is normal with a jump in PP especially if a wide gap since prior BT.
A Near BT (or any BT or unusual change) can be flagged if you don’t agree with the adjustment.
Flagging retains the strain score while excluding the activity from signature calc.
A Near BT by design lowers values to accelerate the occurence of subsequent BTs.

If you’re not confident about your current signature you can always validate it by selecting a “fitness test” workout from the Library and ride it in Slope mode. Even if you don’t acheive a BT you’ll know how close your signature is dialed in. Once dialed in daily fluctuations will track accurately on TL changes alone.

Thank you very much for your reaction. I think I understand better now. I’m using Xert’s Forecast AI to plan my workouts which I mainly execute on a trainer in ERG mode hoping that the forcast will become true . So besed on what \I read i decided to change the setting of the decay mode to none and my FTP went back to the old value. I will do the suggested tests now nad then to check whether the Xert value is still up to date. And yes, PP/HIE allaigns with the char you shared. Thank you again.
