Just looking for some help understanding the advice in the training section of ATA. The text tells me I have a deficit, and the review data at the top tells me I have a surplus …

Im sure its a timing thing - but confusing …

I have the same thing going on where the “My Fitness” report in the Training tab shows a Training surplus of 27 XSS but when I go to plan a ride for tomorrow (under Planning tab) it shows a Training Deficit of 104 XSS. Not sure which one to believe.

Post screenshot of your Training page.
It would not be unusual to show a surplus one day and deficit the next.
Surplus/deficit does not carry over to the next day as a simple math calc.
The Training Pacer needle is tracking weighted moving average XSS over a 7-day window.
Advice also factors in ramp rate you set and what you normally ride on the same day of the week.
Time of day is also a factor. Watch what happens if you change Start Time for tomorrow’s workout from 7am to 7pm on the Planner.
