SMART - The Number of the Beast

Are the sprint sections in this supposed to be ERG? I was going from 180w to 750+ & hit an immediate death spiral.
I tried to spin up for the next couple but I just couldn’t manage it and quit.

Just wanted to check if it was an anomaly or am I supposed to be able to manage that and should just get good.

If the workout is tagged MIXEDMODE it includes intervals that slip into Slope mode where you control watts by gears/cadence.
This is typical when the goal is a max sprint effort and not a specific watt target.

If you view the Remote or Session Player while peforming a workout on EBC you’ll notice the CO (cadence optimizer) gauges jumps up before the interval starts warning you to spin up to the suggested RPM range before Slope mode engages. That should avoid the death spiral but you can also lower the Slope % if needed for your trainer.

Sorry, I think it was a Watts target. It’s not tagged as mixmode either.

What is the name of the workout?

SMART - The Number of the Beast

Sorry, I was not looking at the topic title when I replied on my phone.
That workout contains sets of high watt SMART intervals based on XSSR intervals.
If rapid transitions are causing the issue you could switch to Slope mode, determine what Slope % works best during the first set, and see how closely you can match targets under your control (gears/cadence). If that works remain in Slope mode monitoring the rainbow gauge to match targets.

Does issue occur with similar XSSR based workouts? Ex. SMART - Valley of the Damned
What about the classic Ronnestad workout based on %TP intervals?

I’ve not been suggested those before. I’ll give them a go and see what comes up.
