Overweight on running?

Seems that XERT places more weight to running than cycling. Is this the case or am I reading the output wrong?

Sorry, but it’s not clear what you mean here.

Are you referring to getting more XSS from one hour of running than from one hour of cycling? If so, make sure you’re not importing your running activities into your cycling profile—especially if you’re using running power, as that can skew the numbers.

How can I “filter” what gets synced to just cycling activities

Check this for Strava and/or Garmin.

Thanks!

How would none cycling activities really effect ones training plan from X?

for example hiking; i hiked about 15 miles with the wife this weekend. traditionally i exclude hikes and walks from Training Peaks. The TSS is usually pretty low since my HR is very low. Thoughts?

I usually don’t include these activities because I don’t do them that often, and it’s unclear how much they actually contribute. I’m not a coach, but my thinking is that all physical activity trains different parts of the body. Take hand cycling, for example — it doesn’t target the muscles you use for regular cycling, but it still works your cardiovascular system. Similarly, hiking, running, and cross-country skiing do put useful strain on your heart and lungs, and they activate some of the same muscles you use for cycling — but also many that you don’t.

Because your energy is spread across different muscle groups, a given heart rate during these activities doesn’t translate to the same level of stress on your cycling-specific muscles. For example, cross-country skiing at 120 bpm might only give your cycling muscles the equivalent of what you’d get from 100 bpm on the bike — the rest is going into muscles less relevant to cycling. So while there’s some benefit, it contributes less efficiently to your cycling fitness.

If you are using a Garmin watch for running power, they give running power numbers that are pretty high compared to values from a typical cycling power meter. It’s really more of a Garmin issue.
