Yeah, wondering that myself. I changed the SMART to another workout via the Modify button under it. My problem is I have an Elite Suito, which can only work with one Bluetooth device at a time. So I can’t just use the Companion App and the Xert EBC at the same time. If I had a more advanced trainer, I’d let Xert control the resistance, then let the companion app broadcast to Zwift. I’m wondering if a PC would share the single Bluetooth channel from the trainer between two different windows though?
If need be, you can immediately send an alternate workout to Zwift by tapping the icon.
It helps to review what’s on deck before you start the workout in Zwift.
Not all SMART workouts have issues when ridden in ZWO format.
Look for the MIXEDMODE tag or curvilinear intervals on the thumbnail chart on XO.
If in doubt view the workout details on XO and look for XSSR or %Reserve MPA intervals
If you have Zwift Sync enabled plus Automatically Schedule on the Planner, the routine sends the WOTD along with four alternates. You can view those entries by tapping Workouts, Custom, Xert folder on Zwift. The thumbnail charts should be informative.
Adjusting intensity to complete intervals doesn’t necessarily mean you “failed” the workout.
Last week as an experiment I used the Send icon to push SMART - Blood and Thunder to Zwift.
Notice the two middle over/under intervals are %Reserve MPA. I.e. a dynamic type that won’t play that way on Zwift.
The workout is also rated 3-diamond Difficulty which is above my current 2-1/4 status stars, so I knew it would be harder than what I usually ride for HIT.
When I got to those over/unders I immediately decided to dial things down to 90%.
I wasn’t up to trying that hard. I changed back to 100% for the final 30 minutes.
The result was –
Target: XSS: 132 ( 127 | 3.0 | 1.5 ) Polar Rouleur
Completed: XSS: 124 ( 120 | 2.7 | 1.3 ) Polar Rouleur
IOW goal achieved with slightly less low, high, peak strain.
If I had been concerned about filling the buckets I could have dual recorded with my Garmin and filled the remaining buckets during an extended cooldown.
I realize not everyone has that ability but with a few clicks prior to riding you can confirm the best workout to ride on Zwift.
If a SMART dynamic workout intrigues you, EBC is the way to go.
