My first plan; confused by XSS vs. duration vs. training type contradictions

Welcome everyone!

I consider myself as new to Xert, I joined like a year ago and I was using it for just monitoring my other training sessions (with the help of continuous improvement suggestions). I started a new plan a month ago and it looks like I am in the base part now.

I am confused about “forecasted trainings” which are still endurance at this time.

One day it is: XSS (150, 0, 0) Low intensity endurance, 2h 12min, suggested power 163W. And that proves itself, I did 2h 30ish min: 6min of warmup, 6min of the cooldown and the mid part was at 163W. I reached XSS 157, nicely done.

Now the “confusing” part.

My next workout should be: high intensity endurance, 2h 47min, but only 109 XSS (108, 0.7, 0.1). Yes it has high and peak values, yet very low and the total of 109 over almost 3 hours seems odd and very, very low. Especially, that the training advice reads:

[…] Focus on maintaining a higher power near your lower threshold power (187 watts) between intervals. […]

Interval Power: 331 Watts, Interval Duration: 25 Seconds, Recovery Power: 173 Watts

All prescribed power values are higher than 163W, the duration is 30ish mins longer but the XSS is much lower and impossible to stay in that low limit!

How should I read those values? The last thing I am looking for is to go against the plan.

What XFAI program type? What is the end date?
Is Availability tightly configured or is duration flexible on most days?
Post a desktop-view screenshot of your current and upcoming week on the Planner.

@ridgerider2 I have the same confusion, here are my Screenshots.

Tomorrows Schedule is 2h 14m, thats a lot volume for 95 XSS of a high intensity Training
My XFAI Type is : Polar Breakaway Specialist

As you can see, the recommended training is only 60 minutes. Will that negatively affect my weekly volume? What about the “missing 1h 14m”? Is that just not needed?

please excuse, i can only add 1 image per post

this is the setup.

I just started using Xert, maybe I did something wrong. :man_shrugging:

UPDATE:

Today’s training has been adjusted to fit the XSS volume. Its finally makes sense to me

I see your Update but keep in mind the duration is simply an estimate that also reflects what you normally train on a particular day of the week.
The duration isn’t something you must adhere to in order to hit your XSS target for the day plus outdoors typically takes longer to reach the same value. Indoors you can hit your High/Peak numbers with a shorter workout then extend the cooldown to fill in Low if desired.
Also the Workout Library doesn’t contain lots of entries over 2 hours long, When this happens the recommended list reflects the closest matches for the XSS target ratio (low/high/peak).
If the pickings are slim you an alternately run Magic Buckets Workout Generator or Autogen to create a suitable workout for the day. Or free ride following Magic Buckets guidelines if you have a Garmin Edge or run Android EBC.
