I only really have an hour a day -
I tend to get a session recommended on Monday thats got plenty of peak like Ride the lightening or Dirty little secret and the rest of the week is usually endurance.
My question is, if I lean in to Magic buckets is it feasable to do a bit of peak say 3 times a week (I guess 20mins of the hour) rather than 1 full hour?
From a training and progression stand point.
Does that make sense?
Just a few questions to help clarify things…
- It would help to know your program type (e.g. Continuous Improvement, Goal, etc.) and your selected Focus/Athlete Type (e.g. Puncheur, Climber, etc.)
- What is your training status the rest of the week? Are you yellow for the rest of the week? That would explain why you’re being recommended endurance.
- In Profile Settings > General, what is your Polarization and Recovery Demands set to? Outside of your training plan, these would likely have the biggest influence on what’s being recommended for you.
Continuous Improvement
Road Sprinter
It does tend to stay yellow
Polarization 80/20
Recovery centre
Although to be fair, I think my question is more - “Is front loading the workouts so I have one hard session and the rest endurance better, than say using MB to do a bit of peak 3 of the 5 days with the rest endurance”
I do feel that it is better - what I’m being recommended is best, I just wanted to be sure.
Thanks for the details! Doesn’t answer your question, but what you can do is to try moving the polarization option from 4:1 (80:20) down to like 3:1 or 2:1, which will give you smaller doses of High/Peak XSS throughout the week, rather than one big dose at the start of the week. Make sense?
Mathematically, doing it all at once might be the best way to increase your High/Peak TL, but it also might depend on how you prefer to train. I’m not sure that I would enjoy doing all my HIIT for the week in a single session. I think I might prefer to have it spread out across a couple days.
As your High/Peak training loads grow, it might not even be possible to achieve enough XSS in a single, one hour session to maintain progressive overload. Let’s say you need to do 10 Peak XSS now. If you want to continue improving, you might need to do 15 or 20 Peak XSS, which might not be possible in a one-hour session & would need to be spread out over a couple days.
Excellent answer! Makes perfect sense.
Reassuring for this n00b too.
