Is Circuit Training Better than HIIT for building stamina and endurance

I have been thinking about how circuit training and HIIT compare when the main goal is improving stamina and endurance rather than just getting through a tough workout.

Both can be challenging, but they seem to approach fitness differently. Circuit training often combines strength exercises with continuous movement and short rest periods. HIIT focuses on repeated high-intensity efforts followed by recovery. Of course, there’s some overlap between the two.

For people who already cycle, run, or do other endurance activities, I am curious which approach offers more benefits without adding too much fatigue.

A few things I would love to hear your thoughts on:

  • Which has helped you improve stamina and overall fitness more?
  • Does circuit training offer a better balance of strength and endurance?
  • Is HIIT more effective for cardiovascular fitness, or does it make recovery harder?
  • How often do you include either type of workout alongside your regular training?

I would be particularly interested in hearing from anyone who’s tried both. Did you notice a meaningful difference in your endurance, recovery, or overall performance?

Looking forward to hearing what has worked for you.
