Anyone have a favorite workout they do the day before a MTB race as an opener? This particular race is only 11 miles with 768 ft of climbing. Should only take 45 minutes or so.
If you search the Library for “opener” there are several workouts you might consider.
If I selected a workout I’d ride it in slope mode. Otherwise I’d free ride at my own pace and tailor a few intervals around what I expect to occur during the event.
If there’s going to be a hard start, I’d include a couple of short sprints then a few 3-5 minute efforts at the race intensity I’m expecting for the event.
The consensus on HIT openers is all efforts should be performed at high cadence with plenty of rest-in–between. The goal being to provide the stimulus to wake up your muscles and leave you wanting to do more. However, don’t go there.
