My planner for yesterday was to do some interval workout with XSS in both high and peak (I raced on Zwift instead plus top up).
Thought:
My adapt forecast button had the red dot (I ignored it as I wanted to race) as I was still ‘tired’, does my starting MPA for a workout, particularly those with high and peak xss, change depending on my freshness status. I suspect it doesn’t, but would be interested to know if this is something you have thought about as being tired or very tired will impact my ability to generated higher levels of power. Also, given I got a breakthrough, albeit a bronze, is there any consideration of my freshness status when calculating my new fitness signature.
I realise the thought is a bit rambling, end of a long week.
Great question. At the moment it doesn’t but yes indeed it is something that we have thought about extensively. Some of our new models will be able to handle this to some degree. However, you might appreciate the difficulty in modeling this: ultimately, if you start an activity “pre-fatigued” then we would need a accurate account of the affect of that fatigue. If we over estimate it, you’ll end up getting a breakthrough you didn’t deserve. If we underestimate it, you’ll never get a breakthrough and the situation isn’t much different as it is now.
Having said that, our newer modeling can account for it but we’ll need to “teach” it how it should work, with some of this being athlete specific.
Thanks so much for you answer. Being in data science I can fully appreciate the difficulty of modelling the impact of a rider’s freshness status. We all recover at different rates, particularly us older athletes.
I look forward to hearing more about it when you release it.
