I don’t see any planned workouts when using continuous, is this normal?
Do I have to choose each day what workout, does Xert suggest any workouts?
Thank s
It’ll suggest a workout for you on the day
There are two program modes in Xert.
XFAI (Goal, Event, Race) creates a pre-populated Planner with a mapped itinerary.
XATA (Phased Progression, Continuous, 30-day Challenge) operates in background with a blank.calendar. You chose what you want to do on a day-by-day basis although you can manually populate the Planner for the week ahead if you like.
Continuous is similar to the Build phase in a phased progression. You set a Focus Type and ramp rate (which you can change at any time) and monitor the Training Pacer to maintain that rate.
Each day the Training page provides guidelines based upon your recent activities, calculated form, Focus Type, and Improvement Rate.
You can select from the recommended list or use Filter to find alternates.
XATA can automatically pick a suggested daily workout if you enable “Automatically schedule a recommended workout” on the Planner under Settings. That’s like pressing the Suggest button on the Training page which randomly picks from the top four entries. Only in this case the suggested workout is added to the Planner after midnight each night. If you have Zwift sync enabled that workout also gets pushed to Zwift.
Those of us who are long-time Xerters were raised on XATA’s blank calendar method.
Sounds iffy/scary until you actually try it and determine it works. I did that on my 120 day experiment.
3+ years later and I’m not as strict when following Xert “plans” but I continue to get results.
I’m accustomed to selecting from recommended lists or going off-script and picking something different whenever I want to. I prefer to do this when ready to train each day which for me varies, is often weather based, sometimes aligned with a group ride, but mostly an impromptu decision.
Xert’s blank calendar method works well for me. YMMV
For cyclists who cannot fathom training without a calendar based plan Xert provides XFAI.
With either mode flexibility is a core function exemplifying Xert’s “freedom to ride” approach.
