Best Xert setup for a weekly Sunday race league (MyWhoosh)?
Hi all,
Looking for advice on Xert configuration for a recurring event — I’m about to start racing in a Sunday league on MyWhoosh, so this isn’t a one-off goal race but a weekly fixture.
My experience so far has been almost entirely with Event mode: set a date, pick the race type, let Xert taper me into it. That’s worked well for occasional A-races where the taper and peak actually make sense. But obviously Xert only lets you target one Event at a time, so that approach breaks down for a race that happens every week.
My working assumption is to switch to Continuous Improvement as the base target, and just treat each Sunday race as a hard, high-value interval session that CI/Adaptive Training Advisor will read and adapt from — rather than trying to force a taper cycle every single week.
A few things I’d love input on:
-
Does anyone else race weekly and run CI as the base mode? Does it actually keep progressing eFTP well with a hard breakthrough effort baked in every week, or does it undertrain you the rest of the week to “protect” the race?
-
Any tips on manually managing the day(s) before the race (e.g. Saturday) so Adaptive Training Advisor doesn’t stack too much fatigue right before the league race, without going full Event-mode taper?
-
Is there a middle ground — e.g. using Event mode with a very short taper window, re-set weekly — that people have found works better than pure CI?
-
Any specific Focus setting (Breakthroughs vs. Base vs. Peak) that pairs best with a weekly race rhythm like this?
Setup: MyWhoosh via Zwift Cog /, current Threshold Power ~310W. Appreciate any real-world experience from people running a similar weekly race cadence.
Thanks!
