Avoiding GPS on trainer?

Looks like stuff like this has come up here, but not recently, and I can’t find a resolution.

My Garmin 540 is set to have no GPS on the indoor profile, and my Xert workout player app in Garmin Connect is also set to have GPS off (I just noticed the little message about returning to the indoor profile from some GUID-looking profile at the end of a workout).

It’s not a huge deal, but it’s also a pain to try to verify whether RideWithGPS needs my ride to cross the privacy zone boundary before it recognizes that it needs to trim the part close to my house. It would be much nicer to just not have GPS data of the “cracked-out-spider” type that’s dropped on my home address. I don’t even have a location configured in Garmin, and I haven’t had a chance to go for a “real” ride since getting the 540 for use with xert, so it’s never been out of the basement.

I’ve seen some indication that folks used to have to leave and reselect their indoor profile on the Garmin to avoid using GPS, but it looks like that was theoretically resolved, and again, it looks like the Xert Workout Player actually subs in its own profile? Which, again, should be set to GPS off via its settings in Garmin Connect?

I’m repeating myself, so stopping before I circle, but is there a way to stop mapping my basement rides?

Looking forward to intentional GPS and trying out Magic Buckets in the real world tomorrow, I hope, but I’m mostly a basement cyclist these days.
