I currently use the calendar in Training Peaks as my go-to planner but would like to migrate to the Xert Planner. While I’m finding the Xert Planner meets many of my needs, I don’t like using it because I find it buggy and frustrating in a few key ways.
Below are a few issues I find when using EBC (iPad) while running Player (Mac). While these observations are minor issues, I find myself getting way too frustrated trying to overcome the nuances of the interface when I just want to get on with my workout.
Planned Xert Workout retained on calendar and must be deleted after the same Completed Xert Workout posts.
Planned Xert Workout is considered completed if scheduled time has past disallowing user to drag and drop uncompleted planned workout to future date.
Player prioritizes recommended workout over scheduled workout if scheduled time is not accurate. I would prefer scheduled workout prioritized over recommended.
Syncing EBC activity (iPad) with Xert Player (MacBook) problematic - syncing appears to prioritize recommended workout over planned workout.
When scheduled time of planned workout is not close to actual starting time of planned workout EBC prioritizes recommended workout over planned workout.
I would like to know if there are efforts in work to revise the UI to address some of these issues. If so, can we expect a release this year?
30-minute scheduled time window issue has been reported.
As long as EBC is started within 30 minutes of the workout Start time, EBC won’t change to a workout from the recommended list.
Workouts that are never performed disappear after midnight but it would be nice if XO removed the dupe if future workout title matches what you just completed.
What program type are you using?
Do you routinely add workouts to the Planner rather than select a workout when about to train?
Are you primarily creating your own plan rather than following recommended training?
Are you running the Remote/Session Player on Safari or Chrome browser?
I tested EBC on iPad with Session Player running on Chrome browser and the sync is within a second. However, I’m running the Player on a Windows laptop, not a Mac.
I have seen sync issues running the Session Player on Safari on the iPad with EBC running on iPhone.
Try running the Chrome browser on your Mac and see if that makes any difference.
An easy way to test (without riding) is –
Add a workout to Planner with Start time within next 30 minutes. (Or use Play Now from the Training page to select a workout.)
Start EBC, select that workout, and Start it.
Select Remote or Session Player on PC or Mac using Chrome browser.
Start tapping >> on EBC to jump forward on intervals and watch how quickly it syncs with the Player.
Thanks for the detail here, it will allow me to manage the UI better.
Agreed!
Preference is add workouts to Planner usually planning 1 week in advance. I often plan more than one workout on a day and schedule them back to back with the 1st workout start time at 7:30am. However, I am not always consistent adhering to that start time or even within 30 minutes of the planned time.
I follow the Xert recommendations for the plan I’m using in terms of signature, XSS, focus type, etc, but will often times either select my own workout from the Xert list or one of my own build. Currently ATA, Continuous Improvement, GC Specialist. I do routinely add workouts created either using Xert, TP, or Zwift Workout Editor.
I’m running the Remote/Session Player on Safari which is running on a gaming computer (win11).
Sorry, I should have been more clear in my posting regarding the synchronization between EBC and the Session Player. I find that they work together very well and are in synchronization when the workout has started.
What I meant was that I have frustration over trying to get the Planned activity to show in EBC and the Player when I have not conformed to the 30 minute start time window constraint. Both the Player and EBC reflect the same recommended workout. But I find I have to fiddle around to edit the planned workout start time on the Planner if outside the the 30 minute window then go back into EBC and refresh to be able to see the desired planned workout. It’s a small thing but still frustrating.
Your clarification regarding how Xert works in this regard is helpful and much appreciated. I don’t use the Play Now feature but should get familiar with that function. Thank you so much for taking the time to be thorough in your response. Again, your response will go a long way in minimizing any future conflicts surrounding this subject.
