Wellness readings from Intervals.icu to Xert instead of Freshness Feedback

Is this possible, and are you planning such a feature? It would be a complete gamechanger, with workouts tailored to a specific body type and current performance. The current Suwam system, in my opinion, is archaic and doesn’t offer the full potential of integrating health readings with the training suggestions available today.

I’ve been wondering where the Freshness Feedback slider went. It disappeared entirely from the web pages and only remains available in the Xert EBC app. I’m not even sure it does anything any more. Maybe if you use the XATA stuff and not the Forecast AI it re-appears somewhere?

Regardless, it seems like this is ALWAYS useful information (input) to a training plan. Maybe the current thinking is that we should just use the freedom Xert provides with it’s huge variety of prescribed workouts and pick whatever we feel like doing? That’s what I’ve been doing…

There’s no Freshness Feedback when you’re on a Training Plan since the plan dictates what you should do on any given day. If say on the day of the planned training, you don’t feel up to it (whether that’s a feeling you have and/or supported by some other readiness measurement), then you can simply choose to do something else and adapt the plan afterwards. It gets very problematic to have some sort of factor that accounts for your specific readiness values to offer a modified workout. That’s both very difficult to do and wholely unnecessarily complicated. In fact, how you feel at the time you have to do a workout is a far better gauge for you rather than relying on something that’s going to use some HRV or otherwise readiness metric. They simply aren’t accurate enough to make any real-time adjustments to training.

Just curious - is this statement based on some scientific research is it a personal opinion?

I’m not interested in HRV (and agree it’s not very useful or even accurate), just the Freshness Feedback and Training Status. I used to find the Training Status to be quite accurate but lately it’s mostly useless - as in completely wrong. Since it’s been completely wrong, I was hoping to speed up Xert’s adaptation to my “new, lower fitness” faster by using the Freshness Feedback slider like I used to do.

Here’s what I mean by “new, lower fitness.” I calibrated all my power meters to match my trainer which drastically reduced the power numbers for outdoor rides. I’ve also made a bunch of other changes to my Profile. I’ve been failing every single workout with intensity since those changes and it’s been 3 weeks. Xert did reduce my TP right away but I didn’t pay attention to the other parts of my FS. So it’s obvious why I’ve been failing my workouts but not so obvious why it’s taking so long for Xert to figure this out or how to help it adapt faster.

If I don’t tell Xert I’m trying as hard as I can but still failing workouts, how can it possibly know (in any reasonable amount of time)? I do use a HR monitor (and could understand how HR data could help speed the adaptation process), and pretty much always have, but I also changed HR settings (Manually entered to Auto-estimate) so those numbers are all wacky right now (RHR = 29 bpm).

Are you saying that Freshness Feedback is no longer an input to the model? Is the Training Status only an output for our viewing pleasure and assumed to always be accurate?

The only other thing I can think of trying is an FTP test and then lock that FS. Beats me.

Wouldn’t Xert adapt the FS faster with a Freshness Feedback slider?

I’ve been thinking it would be nice if the Freshness Feedback was adjustable via the API, then those of us that would like to able to adjust it based on some personal rules/logic could do so.

Have you looked at the recovery demands slider?

Yes, I’ve adjusted it from the default (middle) closer to More 3 times already.

It’s easy enough to understand how Breakthroughs work, but how do BreakDOWNs work? Does Xert only use Decay Method and Recovery Demands to adapt a FS down? Is my only other option a manual reset of my FS?

For me, the Freshness Feedback (XATA, Continuous Improvement Slow) indicator is completely dead. Whether I set it to -10 or +10, the system still suggests the same grueling workout for today (probably due to the XSS deficit points accumulated over the past few days – due to a cold). I feel like I slept less well today and need something more in the Endurance style. Currently, I have to find the right workout myself; I don’t know which XSS to target. This indicator should fully modulate the suggested workouts (regardless of the XSS deficit – which is often beyond our control). For example, for today, for 0, I’m suggesting 116 (109 | 5.7 | 1.2). So for -5, it should be adjusted accordingly (similarly for +10, for example). Currently, 116 (109 | 5.7 | 1.2) remains, whether I give -10 or +10. I remember that this indicator used to help me fine-tune my workouts, but now it’s completely useless. However, in my opinion, measurable and subjective feelings about your level of training preparation are a key parameter that should ALWAYS be taken into account.

Recovery demands does not affect your signature. It affects your Training Status and the borders that define very fresh, fresh, tired and very tired. This in turn affects amount of recovery you need, which in turn affects the rate of improvement you can reach, which ultimately affects how fast you can improve your signature.

Your signature parameters move up and down with your training loads. The relative amount they move is defined by your signature decay method and your training responsiveness. Breakthroughs and near breakthroughs also move your signature up and down.
