If you’re using Zwift, Rouvy, MyWhoosh, or another indoor app that supports virtual shifting, you can combine it with Xert’s Magic Buckets to create a super flexible and immersive training setup - no ERG mode required!
With virtual shifting + Magic Buckets, you’re free to ride naturally while still meeting your XSS targets, whether you’re doing a solo free ride, a group ride, or even a race.
I put together this quick reference guide to show how to pair everything properly depending on your setup (Garmin, Hammerhead, or EBC):
Quick Tips:
- Pair your power meter (if you have one) to both apps, but trainer control only goes to the virtual app
- Disable trainer control on Garmin/Hammerhead/EBC - let the virtual app terrain + shifting control the resistance.
- Use Xert’s Magic Buckets to guide your effort - hit the targets using your gears and cadence.
- To avoid duplicate files, I usually save just the virtual app file (e.g. Zwift) for elevation/distance data and discard the other
Let me know if you have questions or want help setting it up with your specific trainer/app!
Cheers & Happy Training! ![]()
