Hi,
I did an indoor ride in Zwift while running XERT Magic Buckets on my Garmin. In Zwift I ended up splitting the ride into two separate activities (I switched to a different map/world), but I kept the Garmin recording running continuously as one activity.
After syncing to XERT, the two Zwift activities were classified with different Focus Athlete Types (one shows Rouleur, the other Endurance), while the single continuous Garmin activity for the same overall session shows GC Specialist.
Is this difference expected because XERT calculates focus/type separately per activity file, so splitting the ride changes the resulting Focus Athlete Type?
Is there any recommended workflow to keep the analysis consistent (e.g., prefer Garmin file, ignore Zwift files, or merge FIT files before uploading) or is there any native way in XERT to merge two activities into one?
That is the expected behavior when profiling an activity.
You can see this on an individual activity by viewing the chart, select a segment, and the analysis above the chart changes to reflect that segment only.
For example, if I select the warm-up ramp portion of a workout the Focus will be Endurance.
If you want two rides on Zwift analyzed as one activity you need to dual record with your head unit like you did. Then delete the Zwift entries synced to Xert and retain the Garmin recording.
The ability to combine rides on Zwift and save them as one activity has been requested for years. Zwift relies on the separation to issue route badges.
Here’s a hack that allows you to switch worlds and go badge hunting if you wish to do that.
You’ll still need to dual record with your head unit to save the rides as one activity.
