I started this week with xert. To get a training plan I used Forecast AI. The data used are my last 3 years.
Once I do a commute with about 10XSS it automatically schedules Rest days for the next two days even though the planned XSS before was >100XSS. The result is a decrease in the weekly XSS and hours. According to the planner I am always fresh.
It really is frustrating that the training planner is just recommending me to rest every day. Meanwhile the Mobile App is showing me a training deficit of 399XSS.
I can not find anything about this in the documentation.
Is it common that a short commute is confusing xert that much or am I doing something wrong?
This sounds strange. Xert doesn’t do any automatic rescheduling of the plan, at least I have never experienced that.
Can you make a screenshot of the planner before and after uploading the commuter ride?
What are your current Program settings and XFAI target date?
What is your current status stars count?
iOS app deficit/surplus currently reflects XATA (fixed ramp rate) rather than XFAI (variable ramp rate). Refer to XO (xertonline.com) Training page for daily advice when using XFAI. A pending update to the iOS app will resolve this issue.
Since you are just starting out, I’d recommend XATA Continuous set to GC Specialist and Moderate-1 Improvement Rate while you learn more about how Xert works. That means the calendar will be blank but there is “plan logic” running in background.
Ride as you please for a couple weeks then experiment with XFAI forecasts.
You can switch back and forth between program types at any time or recast XFAI with different settings and note the differences.
For quick answers I suggest you search this forum. For example, why a large deficit may appear.
Or use your favorite search engine and include “Xert”.
FAQs are posted here plus there is an extensive glossary you can peruse here.
I assume that the training planner just breaks, if a single activity is uploaded (at least when using XFAI).
Is it correct that the training planner should not be used, but only the training tab?
XFAI – populated calendar of HIT, LIT, and Rest days which serves as a framework to follow during the plan. How closely you adhere to the plan is up to your schedule, availability, and what you decide to do.
To visualize the plan, go to the Program tab, scroll down to the forecast chart and view each keu individually like this image shows.
Also click on Table View to view projected changes in TL and Signature over the term of the plan.
One or more entries needs to show an increase to establish a progression which your example does.
Plan variance is tracked through the presence of a red dot warning on the Adapt Forecast button. When the warning appears, you can determine why (hover over any magenta matchsticks on forecast chart) and decide if you want to run Adapt Forecast to rebalance the plan. You can also update (recast) a forecast if you need to adjust any of the General Settings.
XATA – blank calendar with Improvement Rate and Focus Power target you define and control over the term of the progression. Ramp rate can be adjusted periodically if you wish to establish training blocks. Phased progression logic runs in background as described here based on chart shown here.
You decide what to do on a day-to-day basis by following recommended guidelines and what your schedule permits.
Plan variance is tracked by the Training Pacer which represents a weighted moving average XSS over a rolling 7-day window. Keep the needle in the 11-am-1pm position to adhere to your defined ramp rate. That means the needle could drop towards red at beginning of a week and be back tor Noon position over a weekend. If consistently behind or ahead of plan, consider adjusting Improvement Rate.
With XATA the Training page provides descriptive advice for the day (indoor and outdoor options).
With XFAI the Training page shows you a 3-day window from the Planner along with extended description when you click on Training Advice (indoor and outdoor options).
Neither program type limits you to a single workout you must do. You can choose from suitable entries on the recommended list or use Magic Buckets/Autogen to create a workout.
When you enable Automatic Schedule under Planner settings (like you have?) a suitable WOTD (workout of the day) is selected for you after midnight each day. With Zwift Sync enabled that workout and four alternates are sent to Zwift.
In general, you would use the Planner to pre-assign specific workouts to the calendar with Choose (XFAI) or Add [+]. This assumes Automatic Schedule isn’t enabled.
The Training page will reflect those choices.
If no workout is assigned the top-level advice applies (XSS, Focus, Difficulty).
A commute would count against the total XSS goal for the day which means you may have more than one activity applied against the day’s goal. I suggest you disable Automatically Schedule if you will be doing that often. If you tap on the XSS circle you will see Projected vs Completed and how much you are short.
An entry on the Planner that is never performed disappears after midnight or you can manually delete the entry.
What did the Training page show after the commute activity was uploaded to the Planner?
From my testing now I assume that the training for the day disappeared once another activity is uploaded. It seems that Magic Buckets still show it (after about 10min) and the Training tab always shows them. So that was just a confusion on my side (It would be great if the remainder of the training would be shown in the calender). The trainings for the next two days did not disappear this time.
