I may be doing something wrong and I love that Xert is more confident in my abilities than I am but I think the calculated threshold power is too high. Its 30 watts over what I’ve done ramp tests at and no way I’d ever hold that out on the road for an hour. The suggested workouts are brutal (i.e. I keep having to adjust Zwift down)
I looked through my activity table and dont see anything I’d consider an anomaly but threshold seems to be calculated really high on a number of the activities. I imported 3 months of Strava data thinking that might correct it, but same power curve as before.
@ManofSteele Valid point on the power source, Zwift rides are off my Wahoo trainer, road rides have a Quark meter and my MTB rides have no power source. Both the power sources get calibrated every week or so.
Below is one of the suggested workouts that seemed really tough. My MPA didnt really draw down much but you can see where I had to pause the workout 3 times due to failure.
May not be relevant but noticed that Xert workouts indicating Zone 2 end up being my Zone 3 when running in Zwift. Suspect it may be due to the differences in FTP/TP?
I suggest you file a request with support@xertonline.com so Xert can take a look at your historical data and make a signature adjustment.
In the meantime, if you’d like to try something on your own, open the workout details and enter a lower TP below the chart and hit Refresh. Compare the MPA drawdown and rising Difficulty level (shaded portion of chart) with how you think it should look based on how that workout felt.
Currently the Difficulty graphs looks to have a high around 65. Difficulty Rating ranges from Easy (<45-50), Moderate (50-75), Difficult (75-110), Tough (110-150), Hard (150+).
What TP value gives you a Difficulty Rating around 100?
Some SMART workout intervals converted to Zwift format (%FTP blocks) will be a bit harder or easier than when ridden on EBC.
When a workout is pushed to Zwift using the Zwift Sync option your TP determines the FTP applied to the workout on Zwift.
Was the Strava sync comprised of cycling data only?
What is your current status stars count?
When was your last BT? (shown under stars on home page)
Are your trainer rides on your road bike with Quark meter paired as Power?
I had the same experience when starting, and struggled with completing workouts. The last month or so the signature is more realistic, in line with Garmin and other apps.
Main change was a Peak Power breakthrough in a race that increased that with ~50w, which decreased my TP to a more realistic level.
PP was just too low since I rarely do these efforts and haven’t bothered making sure I have a realistic PP somewhere in my activities. Lesson learned.
All the aspects of the xert fitness signature is connected, so just check is the PP is right.
I need to brush up on how HIE is calculated though
Based on the advice I switched my Zwift rides to measure power from my crank meter (vs. the smart trainer) and turned off smoothing on Zwift. Workouts are still damn hard but more achievable now.
