Sync - auto strip or configurable fields to import

Not sure if this is just useful to me but to others as well. If it’s just me then obviously ignore.

Recently I started using a Garmin watch which tracks running power, unfortunately this messes up my TP and signature in Xert for my cycling… therefore, my workaround, is to strip the power data from the fit file using fitfiletools, then manually import my runs without power. This way I get a record of the activity, with some XSS but it doesn’t throw out my cycling power signature… however it is very manual.

Unfortunately with Xert I can’t see a way to specify which fields to import/ingore in the fit file. What would perhaps be an ideal solution would be if I could sync rides with power and runs without power data. I could do this by syncing rides from strava and runs from Garmin… if the ability to select which fit file fields to import/ignore.

Hi @eeney!

Perhaps a workaround for now would be to disable the running power if you’re not really tracking/using it anyways. To do this, head to your running activity profile(s) settings and scroll down to ‘Running Power’ and switch it OFF.

Sorry, where do I get into ‘profile settings’? I have setup profiles, I can see how to delete them, but I can’t see how to go into detailed settings to change them.

From the profiles help page, it also indicates that training load isn’t cumulative across profiles. Part of my idea was to import running without power, just HR, then it’d contribute towards training load without messing up my cycling power profile.

Sorry - from your Garmin device itself. You can disable running power so it’s not recorded into the .fit file.

Here are the instructions for the Fenix 7, but should be similar for most of the newer Garmin watches: fēnix 7 Standard/Solar/Pro Series Owner's Manual - Running Power Settings.

Brilliant!!! Thank you. I was thinking ‘why don’t Garmin have this setting’ but hadn’t checked… you were two steps ahead of me.
Help appreciated!!!
