Rules to Auto Flag Activities

Is there a way to auto-flag activites based on some property of the imported/synced data.

My use case is to auto flag all ‘rides’, meaning that all outdoor rides would be flagged. This is because my outdoor power is much higher than indoor, but 90% of my riding and racing is indoor. So I want the training affect and XSS from outdoor rides, but not the breakthroughs. Meaning my signature would be derived from synced ‘virtual rides’ only.

I think the other use case people have asked for is flagging running workouts automatically.

Pretty sure all run breakthroughs are ignored atm. (If not, lmk).

Rather than having a setting to auto-flag (not a fan of lots of settings… think iOS), we are thinking of adding a scaling feature that would allow you to scale the power data for a ride. It’s in our plans but not on the immediate horizon so no committed timeframe. I’d like it for myself since I use multiple power meters and my trainer reads 11% too high.

I guess scaling would work… I wasn’t saying ‘how to do it’, more trying to explan the user scenario need, ie. avoid breakthoughs which lead to an overly optimistic signature.

Good to hear on the running, I created a 2nd running profile, but haven’t run for a long long time.

PM scaling would be interesting for indoor v outdoor, but I guess we’ll work it out. I seem to have a 10% higher FTP outdoors, even though the PMs all agree and record almost he same indoors.

I personally used to have a quite a big difference between indoor and outdoor. Proper hydration and a well-aimed big fan have made them the same for me.

I’m not sure of the reason, I keep looking for excuses. One is that indoors I have a high end trainer, whereas outdoors I only have left side PM… however, if I put the PM on the trainer they match almost exactly, I’ve tried multiple times.

What I did note is that when I had an Elite Direto my indoor power was same as outdoor, when I’ve tested a Kickr my indoor power is higher… however, I use a Tacx Neo2 which is very very accurate, but for some reason I can hit and hold the same power above threshold, similar to this guy’s experience in this ZwiftInsider review ‘the Neo affect’

You can view indoor riding as a slightly different exercise modality as compared to outdoor riding. The bike is stationary and there a slightly different muscle groups involved. Depending on your specific differences and how these muscle groups are trained, it may manifest as a different signature. No different than say riding a TT bike vs a road bike or standing vs sitting. Ultimately, you have the metabolism to support a higher signature in the different modality and likely will take a bit of training for this to show.

If you can pull this off without any snags it will be a step up for Xert as a combined indoor and outdoor cycling training platform!

But I see some hurdles. Like the Garmin data fields — how will scaling be applied with them given that you might want to use the Garmin for both indoor and outdoor rides?

Will you keep the original power data, but use a scaled version when calculating MPA and XSS after the ride?

But as mention, this will be very nice. I also have a 10-12 W difference between my power pedals and my Kickr Bike.

It will be an after-ride adjustment so apps/Garmin would still see the power from the power meter/trainer.

Ideally, all the power meter / trainer companies should be allowing users to scale power data on the unit directily. This would be a better solution. My Favero pedals allow me to scale power but my Wahoo KICKR can’t be scaled.

Since you primarily ride indoors a simple workaround would be to nix power from being recorded outdoors and rely on HRDM to quantify those activities. I.e. XSS, Focus, etc. based on HR and cadence only.
I doubt you’d see BTs boosting your signature but if you did I think they’d be legit.

As far as the cooling factor indoors, when you ride a workout like Lucy - 90 (over/under LTP) do you end up with much sweat hitting the floor? If so, you don’t have sufficient cooling or you need to lower the room temp.

I had the same email discussion with Wahoo regarding their speedplay pedals. No adjustment option, whereas I have this for my power crankset from Xcadey.

I’ll just keep flagging outdor rides for now. I know the PMs are accurate because I’ve tested them against the indoor trainer several times
