I’m finding it utterly useless for various reasons. If I want to find a ride that was imported from Strava before I was able to give it a proper Name, Xert makes up a name that is essentially useless for filtering. I’m not going to manually rename all my imported Strava rides just so I can filter them later. I’ve tired entering the exact date in just about every reasonable format I can think of but that doesn’t work either.
How does the filtering work or doesn’t it?
OK, I forgot that I had to delete essentially my entire workout history due to all the power meter problems. I still think the filtering needs work though.
All activities imported from Strava retain their Strava name. How did you import them? You can use the Planner or Activites Table to find them by date. Is there an aspect of a previous ride that you are looking to find specifically? If you didn’t name them and don’t know their date, they are generally hard to find on any system. If you are looking for some specific property they have, try the Activities Table. Add the property to the table and click on the title to sort by that. If all this still falls short, provide more details on what it is that you need to find.
I have it set up to automatically import from Strava. The problem is the import happens before I have a chance to give the rides a proper memorable name in Strava. The only workaround I see would be to turn off the automatic syncing completely, edit the ride in Strava, then remember to manually sync. That’s not a great option because I typically edit the files in Strava only a few times a week and would like to have Xert up-to-date for training guidance in the meantime obvioiusly.
A better solution would be if Xert would re-sync the ride if/when it changed in Strava. I have no idea if there is a mechanism in place with the Strava API to force a re-sync on a title change for example. Obviously just completely re-syncing all the time would be a bad option and very inefficient as well as plain not desirable for those who view Xert as their main repository I suppose. Wouldn’t want to have any re-sync change information that was purposefully changed in Xert although I guess that could also be managed with various flags.
Also, the specific filtering I was complaining about is when you’re trying to set up a training plan, where the view in use is more limited than the Table view for example.
If the activity comes from Strava or if we send it to Strava, you’ll see a “Strava” link in the activity when you open it. If you have that, then name updates on Strava will propagate to Xert and vice-versa. If you don’t have the Strava link, then chances are your device sent the ride to Xert and Strava and even though they are on both systems, they aren’t linked.
Yeah. I’d like to add some more filtering or search options on those pages. For the moment, use the favourite feature when you find an activity that would like to use fand then find it that way.
Aha! I think that’s exactly what’s going on. My rides in Xert Activities Table View all show Garmin Edge 540, not Strava. I probably enabled that when having trouble with Magic Buckets syncing or for no obvious reason other than it was a setting I encountered for the first time and enabled without giving any consideration to the side-effect. Time to check everything related to Sync to be sure it is what I want/expect!
Not exactly relevant, but related, why does the Garmin Connect Sync configuration on the Xert website have no sense of direction like the Strava Sync? Do I need to disable Garmin Connect Sync to ensure that my ride data only comes from Strava? Is there a flow chart for the Sync process? All the options are super handy but there are definitely complexities here that could cause unexpected side-effects.
I’ll check the Favorite feature - sounds useful, although getting the Strava Sync corrected will likely solve my current issue. Thanks!
