Hello,
I wanted to install the Xert Magic Bucket data field and the Xert Dashboard data field. I was able to connect to my Garmin Edge 1040, but only one of the data fields works at a time.
If the Magic Bucket field is working, the Xert Dashboard field displays the IQ error symbol, and vice versa.
Is it not possible to have both at the same time?
That should not be a problem. Are you using any other iq fields?
Does the IQ logo show three dots or an exclamation point?
Make sure both apps are current versions. (XMB v10.6 and XDB v6.4 as of 11 April 26)
On XDB you can also try setting the default Cell Layout to 9 cells, not “Default”.
If other 3rd party data fields are installed, temporarily remove them to see if that is causing the conflict.
yes 3 dots
For example, I just deleted all my data fields and kept only Xert Dashboard. I installed Xert Magic Buckets, and both appear. I created a small activity to activate the buckets, and now Xert Dashboard shows me the IQ logo with the three dots.
And you confirmed XMB is v10.6 and XDB is v6.4?
EDIT: Oops, make that 6.5 released today. ![]()
Of course, I installed them today
Test with a profile that ONLY has XMB and XDB installed as custom data fields.
If that still generates a Connect IQ error, power off/on the device and test again.
If no other third-party data fields are installed there shouldn’t be any Connect IQ FIT file stream errors (three dots).
Also, are you using Garmin Connect, Connect IQ directly, or Garmin Express to install the current version?
Garmin Connect will retain a prior version until you select the Update option and cycle through that routine.
If the profile with the data fields is active at the time you also have to power off/on the device afterwards.
I dont have other third-party data fields, only Garmin fields, and Im using connect IQ
Sounds like something weird going on there. I have an edge 530 and run both XMB and the XERT dashboard on different pages. I use buckets for high intensity days and the dashboard for endurance days but can flick between the two. The 1040 has far more operating power and space than the 530 so it should run both with ease and has been around for a while so t=any bugs should have been ironed out
Does the IQ error only appear when you swipe to XDB?
What happens if XDB is the only data field installed?
doesn’t matter whether I display one or both; the one installed most recently will work, and the one installed first will no longer work.
I tested it with a profile that only included XDB, but it didn’t work.
I uninstalled XMB and reinstalled XDB and XDB is working again (of course, if I reinstall XMB, XDB won’t work anymore)
Hi! I developed both of these, and they all work concurrently on my 1050. Should be no problem on the 1040. And I haven’t heard this feedback from anyone else. I’d love to figure out what is going on with your device. I run XDB and XMB full screen, as well as XMB on another screen in a small field view, as well as 5 or so more Custom CIQ fields. Curious if you seem to get the error logo instantly or only after it tries to fetch the data from XERT? The 1040 attempts the fetch within a few seconds, so the best way to see this is to long tap the screen, select another field (like Elevation), then long tap and reload the XDB or XMB field again… and see how long it takes to fail.
One thing I thought of… if you run a bunch of other data fields (like Moxy) which write a bunch of custom FIT data streams (those that generate custom graphs in Garmin Connect), there is a hard limit of 16, which if a data field starts up and attempts to create a FIT data stream that totals over 16 across all installed fields, that field will crash. There is no way to prevent this. Is that possibly what is going on?
It’s definitely not a universal issue. I have XDB and XMB installed on every profile on my Edge 840 and no problems. ![]()
Both run fine on my 1050
