Massively overshot MPA but no breakthrough

Hi there , i competed in a hill sprint race today and kinda buried myself, pushing much harder than usual, even considering typical max efforts
I was wondering why it wasn’t a breakthrough, is XERT not trusting the data considering it was a fair size margin
I do feel like my previous efforts were representative, being on xert for 2-3 months, but a race such as this can take someone to another level
question ; can I still calculate a new signature based on this effort manually or somehow

cheers for help
Chris

Yes you can manually bump up TP and HIE, then click extract and save when happy. May take some trial and error. I think this can happen when a BT is ‘too big’ or outside the normal ranges tested by the algorithm.

Well done tho!

Thanks, Wes, the TP is fairly easy to calculate by looking at the power duration for the event, but I am less certain about calculating HIE, It is a shame there is no override calculation option ,

The extract button does that… the first adjustment you make manually is ‘seeding’ the algorithm / giving it a better starting point, then extract will adjust all parameters to fit I.e reprocess the BT correctly

thanks i have extracted and saved it for a 38w bump in TP and PP , seems daunting

You got a PP increase from a threshold effort? That doesn’t sound right, does it?
I would ask support to find our why the BT wasn’t triggered, I am sure they can correct that.

There are several safeguards built into the algorithm that block BT adjustments.
One is if a power spike occurs which is common with many power meters especially on outdoor rides. Xert will ignore those spikes during analysis.
Another issue is an “abrupt stop” condition which your chart indicates.
It looks like you warmed up, had a 10 minute break, went well over threshold for the hill climb sprint including a final jump at the line followed by an abrupt stop. IOW you didn’t naturally fail but simply stopped pedaling. My guess is that final spike nixed any BT adjustment.
When a BT does get applied under those condttions the result is usualy an unrealistic bump like the one you got with your extraction. With a trial-and-error extraction you want to end up with a reasonable bump.
I’d go back and lower the numbers even if it means the MPA line intersects the highest spike.
Or file a support request and Xert will assist with the adustment.

Thanks for the advice i received a reply from support who noted I have done a manual update that looks ok for now , I can’t see myself matching that effort for some time but that’s the challenge

dealt with the same issue recently, received the same guidance to manually bump tp and hie but can’t find myself putting a number to update and be “happy with it” considering the breakthroughs are “automatic” based on surpasses that mpa.

I just let it be without a breakthrough although was a monster effort, better luck next time I guess :upside_down_face:
