Magic Buckets Server Fetch Error

Today the 1040 magic buckets data field is showing a server fetch error and that I should register my Garmin. It worked fine yesterday and the data field is up to date. I tried to record and save a ride as suggested but that did not work. Any ideas why this is happening and how to correct it?

I’m in the same boat on a garmin 840. Seriously frustrating that the majority of time I want to use magic buckets or the dashboard it doesn’t work.

No issues for me this morning; Edge 1050 using MB Beta.

Hi Frank,

I figured out what was causing my issue by watching the magic buckets install video again. I missed one important step which was how my rides sync to Xert. I sync from both Garmin Connect and Strava. To get the device registered the file needs to come from Garmin Connect. I disabled the sync from Strava and then saved a ride (couple seconds) that synced from Garmin and that registered my device.

All works after that. Hope that helps.

It was working for me for several weeks, then one day it stopped. I have my sessions going to Garmin Connect and then to XERT. I wound up uninstalling the data field and reinstalling it and that seems to have worked. It is strange because nothing changed from Wednesday to Thursday this week…MB just stopped working.

There is an issue with Connect IQ that results in a previously registered key going “bad”.
To resolve it you have to do what you did which was delete the data field from the Garmin device which removes the prior key. Then reinstall and save a short ride to generate a new key.

I have the same issue and have followed @ridgerider2 instructions without success. Any ideas?

Bad fetch or invalid key?
If “Bad connection; fetch error” during initial connection does the same message appear after the second fetch attempt? (300 secs later)

First message is “Not Registered Fetch Error” and then “Record then Save/Upload the activity…your Garmin”

I’ve gone through this a few times with the same results.

In Garmin Connect you should see the newly generated key under the Stats section for the saved short activity.
However, if Garmin Connect sends the FIT file to Strava and Strava sends it to Xert, that key is stripped on Strava and never reaches Xert for registration.
To remedy that situation delete the short activity on Xert and directly import the FIT file from Garmin Connect. A successful registration notice should appear on Xert.
Once registered you can remove that activity from everywhere.
