Magic Buckets & Planning Beginner ?s

Returning user just getting started. I’ll be on a Continuous plan riding 95% outdoors and want to maximize using Magic Buckets.

  1. What is the advantage of creating a workout on the calendar with Magic Buckets vs just hopping on and riding?

Is that just to see before you hop on the bike? Or maybe plan for tomorrow so you know how to eat dinner, whatever etc?

  1. what is the difference between creating a workout in the calendar with MB vs just the regular Activity Tab?

  2. for my Garmin layout, are you all done using Garmin Fields and just using the MB screen now?

  1. Use with erg mode
  2. Different methods, old autogen gave 3 sets of intervals with power decreasing between sets. MB workout has constant on power and lets you control difficulty with challenge level (max %mpa used x10) with longer intervals to get you to the desired challenge level (+2 per interval) and then shorter ones to keep you there until high and peak are satisfied.
  3. I use ebc, so can’t answer on garmin

For #3, I still find use for the original MPA/Power data field on my main racing page, along with TTE/TTR.

But I use the Xert Dashboard (XDB) and Xert Magic Buckets (XMB) for most of my day to day riding or training, respectively.

  1. As @ConorP says the generator tab can be used to create an XMB style workout to ride under Erg control indoors. You can create a HIT monster by adjusting interval duration and raising Challenge Level.

In your case hop and ride without any workout created/selected will do the job outdoors.
XMB will dynamically adjust to fill the buckets as you execute the workout.
By default XMB will fetch the top level XSS advice for the day unless a workout has been selected/scheduled with a different XSS target.
For example, if GC Specialist is the top level XSS advice today, you could override that by selecting a Rouler workout on XO before you start recording a ride on your Garmin.
