Magic Bucket issues on Garmin 1040

I installed the XSS Magic Buckets on my Garmin 1040. I have several Activity Profiles and I want to use this data field in 2 profiles.

I first added it to my “Training” profile. All works fine. Data field shows up, registration worked, I see the buckets and get my numbers. 100% perfect.

I then added it to my “Road” profile. Here the data field simply doesn’t show up. I just get a generic ConnectIQ logo with 3 dots in the middle of the screen. Starting an activity doesn’t change anything either. It just keeps on showing that logo.

Meanwhile in the Training profile all works fine.

I tried creating a new profile, but it’s the same there. It’s as if I can’t use the field in more than one profile?

If your Road profile has any 3rd party apps/fields that cause an IQ conflict (ex. CORE or Alpha-HRV) the options are:

  • remove the problem fields from the profile
  • create another profile without the conflicting fields
  • disable FIT Graphs under Settings for XMB (Garmin Connect on phone, locate XMB under Data Fields, Settings)

I’m not exactly sure what the FIT Graph function does, but it sounds like the conflicting app/field prevents XMB from accessing the FIT file for that purpose.

Hi there,

It sounds like the issue might be related to how the CIQ data field interacts with the FIT file. CIQ can only write to 16 developer fields in the FIT file, and some data fields, like CORE and Moxy, can take up many of those limited slots for their data. This can prevent other data fields from displaying because there aren’t enough slots left in the FIT file for them to register.

Here are a couple of steps you can try:

  1. Check for Updates: Make sure you’re running the latest version of the Magic Buckets data field.
  2. Disable FIT Graphs: Go into the data field’s CIQ settings and try disabling the FIT Graphs? option. This might help free up the necessary slots for the Magic Buckets field to display properly on your device.

Give these a try and let me know how it goes! Hope this helps!

I’m running Core, MyBikeTraffic and DF_PowerPeaks ConnectIQ data fields. I installed the field yesterday so I’m pretty sure it’s the latest version.

I just disabled FIT graphs in the field settings but it’s still the same, even after rebooting the device.

Then I tried removing the screen with all the ConnectIQ data fields and now it works.
Next step was adding one by one the ConnectIQ fields again. I added Core, no problem. Then I added MyBikeTraffic and now Xert continues to work but MyBikeTraffic has the ConnectIQ icon and no longer works. Then I added DF_PowerPeaks and MyBikeTraffic still doesn’t work but Xert continues to work.

Seems like an issue between MyBikeTraffic an Xert Magic Buckets. The first one I add works, the second one doesn’t.

I’ve got a similar problem on my Road profile except the Screen shows up then randomly dissapears and shows the generic IQ logo which is a bit irritating when i look down on the screen after setting off and its no longer there.

I’m running AlphaHRV, Dashboard, Magic Bullets, MPA/Power & Fat/Carbs

Never going to “fit” them all at the same time if the apps/fields vie for the same slots.
Guess you’ll have to decide what’s more important to you on a ride.
I assume you can create separate profiles with fields that don’t collide. Not a solution of course but functional profiles.

Decisions, decisions. I thought I’d finished with those when I retired.

I don’t know if it will free up any slots but you don’t need MPA/Power when using the Dashboard or XMB.
When outdoor weather returns I’ll likely create two Road profiles. One with XMB for workout rides and the other for simply free riding with the Dashboard; also good for group rides.
I prefer the least number of possible screens to swipe through.

MyBikeTraffic looks to be a noble endeavor and I commend the effort, but you would need thousands of cyclists reporting on a daily basis to provide any meaningful insights.
Garmin should provide this as an opt-in function built into their Varia units. Plus provide a world map site that includes radar incident reports and safety scores in addition to heatmaps for routing purposes.

I removed the Dashboard for todays ride and everything went well. Thanks for the tip

I don’t use it for the global database, but I can check all my own rides there and see every car that passed me. I also get a summary for every ride. It’s not really important, just a nice to have.

If there are technical limitations wrt running several ConnectIQ fields at once it would be nice that Garmin actually reports those. We are limited in the number of installed data fields already, but if there are limited resources for all fields together it should be exposed someway so you know when you hit that roadblock and don’t spend time reporting “a bug” to the developer of the data field.

Yes but that’s Garmin for you.

On my 1030 Plus, I was facing the same issue as @ir_fuel. Magic Buckets worked on my indoor profile and not on my road profile.

After uninstalling MyBikeTraffic, I was able to get it to work.
