Let's See Your BREAKTHROUGHS! 💥

Trying to revive an old thread here - let’s see how it goes

I got a “sprinter’s breakthrough” today… on my warm-up of all things :man_shrugging:

If you feel that was an errant power meter spike you should flag the activity to remove the BT calculation.
If you haven’t sprinted much in a while it’s certainly possible to jump 100+ watts when you do.
If you want to prove the change is legit, flag that activity, then perform a few out-of-saddle 20 sec max efforts on your next HIT day.

Got a breakthrough 2 weeks ago on my first HIT session with new power meter. Switched from Assioma Uno to Assioma Duo PM. My average L/R balance seems 48%/52% so the Uno’s were probably underreporting power. 2 weeks later (today) I flagged the breakthrough because it seems the new signature is not sustainable. Peak power and HIE seems legit but I think TP is too high?

It bumped my TP from 279 to 304W.

I flagged the activity and I feel like 279W is more realistic for training. What do you guys think?

Edit: for the last 2 weeks, I rode outside and did HIT with magic buckets without problems. The trigger for flagging the breakthrough was yesterday as I failed a VO2 max session. 3x 4,5m at 120% TP but already cracked at the first one around 2 minutes in. Could be fatigue , could be too high TP, I don’t know :’)

Another breakthrough. Bronze this time. The golden BT from above was definitely off. Could have gone a little bit longer on the last rep but it was hot inside  i think my signature is prety well dialed in now

Nixing that large bump was likely the best course of action.
Also consider this in the future –
For a VO2max workout what matters most is reaching the huff-and-puff state and hanging on for the duration.
Watts required to reach (and hold) that physiological state vary by individual.
E.g. 105 to 125% depending on your fitness signature and interval durations.
If I’m having trouble under ERG control, I’ll switch to Slope mode and perform the interval at whatever watts I can muster. I.e. VO2max at RPE.
You could alternately adjust % intensity during the interval but slope is easier to control.
Other options for VO2max work include Ronnestad-classic sets, SMART workouts scaled to your signature, and hard-start intervals.
They all get the job done pushing the envelope to trigger VO2max adaptations.

Normally I’m very good at longer VO2 max efforts and I like them. 120% of TP for 4,5m would be very doable for me. That’s why I flagged the golden breakthrough :stuck_out_tongue: I had to push 365W for 4,5m which was (132% of my real TP). A bit too good to be true
