Let's See Your BREAKTHROUGHS! šŸ’„

Hereā€™s my recent BT. Decided during the beginning of yesterdays workout to give it a try and pushed up the Alpe on Zwift, BT during final sprint.

Had another one during a 30min Zwift race, this was truly all out for today :sweat_smile:

Canā€™t wait to ride outside as soon as my fingers can hold the brake lever again.

That looks like some serious punishment. Glad you got rewarded for the efforts.

You shouldnā€™t see much change from your new signature with that 11 watts bump other than normal decay over time, but that is gradual. Is your decay set to optimal?
HIE is more relational to PP than TP. How do your numbers look compared to this chart?
Are there errors in my Fitness Signature? ā€“ Xert (baronbiosys.com)

Yes, you are correct. This time there was no big changes other than decay. I set to optimal again a few weeks ago. I did do a longer ride yesterday and managed to stay mostly around LTP as planed.

My signature look a bit strange, I think: 237 TP, 26.9 HIE and 844 PP.

PP seems about right. My sprinting ability sucks and this is roughly my personal best that I managed during an outdoor ride a few weeks ago.

TP could be correct hopefully. At least it would be a nice improvement for me.

HIE seems very high but I have no real frame of reference other than the chart you posted.

BT today on a climb on Rouvy 18.4 km long ave 4% - max 14%.

20 minute effort, reached MPA with 30s or so left, I think I ended up with around 90s maximal effort time. Looks like my sig is pretty well dialled in!

A small one, but it was fun. Xert fitness test v3. Used automode switched to slope (2%) for the intervals with highest efforts. It will take a little time to get used to this, especially taking some more time to build up the power. Well, it was fun and not too hard for a beginner like me :joy::joy:

Except for a couple of coffee rides it was my first ride outside since late fall. I Noticed the MPA dropping so I kind of went for it. Stopped pedaling due to traffic. The rest of the ride was getting lost in the woods, trying to find new trails.

Note that I had been using no-decay for several months (Iā€™m lazy). Before the switch back to optimal the BT was reported as 15W, 0kJ, 21W. I was sure I could get a BT riding outside but I didnā€™t know by how much. Numbers seems quite reasonable.

What goes up must come down, Shorter climbs this time with a long downhill recovery, so I pushed for a BT on the first climb

Nice work @peng31!

Hereā€™s my latest to add to the collection - from an Xert Breakthrough Session!

That fitness test is too generous, but at least it has a positive effect on the satisfaction. For a few minutes. Then you realize that it doesnā€™t mean a lot.

Interesting that you find that the case. Thatā€™s certainly not true at all for me. Iā€™ve had very good, consistent results (consistent with outdoor riding and other indoor workouts) having used this workout fairly consistently for 3+ years now.

Thatā€™s also the one I do when I need to refresh my signature, and, yeah, for at least 3 years now. I did it 4 days ago, it gave me 295W TP. Now, Iā€™m starting (again) a 4 weeks ā€œFLPā€ plan, with Seilerā€™s 4x8 workouts, and on my first day, yesterday, I could only do 280ish W intervals. In January, I did that test twice, once before and once after another FLP plan where I improved my results from about 270 to 290W, yet the tests gave me again 296W and 295W.

Two hypotheses:

  • Iā€™m better at managing short intervals when Iā€™m working out indoors ( = I suck at long intense intervals). I remember that I also did that test in August and September 2019 - outdoors - with 298W and 297W, and back then, I was quite able to do the workouts outdoors with long intense intervals.
  • Iā€™ve been training too much on short intervals during this Winter, so I get better results on that kind of test because it focuses on short intervals.

Armando told me that there might be an inconsistency with the power data from my power-meter on short spiky intervals, but Iā€™m confident that my power-meters are credible.
Iā€™m also pushing my data on intervals.icu; and from the test I did last Tuesday, it rewarded me with a 266W TP. Waaaaay lower than the estimation from Xert, but it confirms that my Seilerā€™s 4x8 workouts should be with intervals at about 280W (106% of 266, thatā€™s 282W).

Todayā€™s effort:

Went hard up one of the local hills with the intention of doing a set but just wasnā€™t feeling it so headed out for a longer ride and the legs started to get going. Still not brilliant but did manage a small breakthrough. Thought I was going to run out of hillā€¦

Quite pleased with the difficulty score too.

I managed this yesterday - not been doing any max power efforts recently hence the +93 in peak power. This was in erg mode.

Iā€™m currently evaluating Xert alongside a Sufferfest training plan and Xert looks like a perfect match to my use case. Post lockdown Iā€™ll be back to commuting by bike 5 days a week and a structured/inflexible plan will not really work for me.

Can anyone explain what happened?

Hi @Woolftirol, great breakthrough!

This can happen when the starting signature is quite a bit lower then the resulting signature. You can ā€˜helpā€™ the system out a bit by going to the ā€˜Advanced MPAā€™ tab, increasing Threshold Power closer to where you think it might be and then clicking the ā€˜Extractā€™ button to see if Xert is able to extract the new signature. If successful, you can save the resulting signature. PM me or send a note to support team and myself or someone else will be able to assist you with this!

Cheers!

Thanks, it worksšŸ˜Š

Breakthrough during a Strava PR. Wanted to have a good signature before starting Base, Build, Peak again.

Had a near breakthrough on an already decayed signature the other day. Needed a reset before starting my next block, came into this pretty fresh as Iā€™m at the end of a rest week. Think things are going to get a bit harder!
