As in the title - Does anyone have a way to utilize the XERT stats in zwift racing?
For example I did the Ven Top TT today, and noticed that I hit a near breakthrough (after the race :P) - had I had the live stats - likely I would have just forced myself to push a bit longer - the near breakthrough was exactly at the point of the race ending, so I eased up, but if I knew I was at the breakthrough level - I likely would have just kept pushing for the few extra seconds.
The problem is that I use the virtual shifting → I MUST connect the power via bluetooth…
I do have an android phone, and garmin epix gen 2 watch - if those could somehow be used to get this data.
Would this be doable if I had garmin bike computer? (I’m considering getting the 1050 once black friday sales start)
I don’t use Zwift currently but would this work?
Install MPA and TTE Connect IQ data fields on the Epix, connect power via ANT+, start a recording there, monitor those fields during ZRL events, then discard the activity on the Garmin after the ride.
Thanks - yes, if the epix can connect via ant+ that … should work. Gotta give it a try in next race. Though, reading the watch while cycling is going to be tricky
Yes, this works. I double-record with Zwift and a Garmin Edge and use the Garmin to control workouts. All connections to Zwift on Bluetooth, and all connections to Garmin Edge on ant+
Thanks, yea, the workout part I got working as well. But I started thinking of getting this data live during races. To see the moments live when breakthroughs might be possible. But as in the answer above, I might be able to get it to work with the xss buckets app on Garmin.
To clarify I’m suggesting the individual MPA and TTE data fields on your epix which will tell you when you’re close to a BT.
Buckets alone won’t do that especially not on a watch.
The new Dashboard would display everything including Buckets Lite but for that you’d need an Edge head unit.
Ah… Ok need to look into it, I thought the xss buckets gives me these data fields. Ie. I’d start the cycling workout when I start the race and make the watch read the power via ant+ (maybe cadence as well+ HR if it matters).
But yea, next week, no time for racing today. Lucky if I manage to squeeze a quick workout.
I find the MPA and TTE useful for both training and racing on Zwift.
My TTE is set for roughly my 1 minute power, and for training I use it for self paced sessions to monitor when the next hard interval can be done or that threshold intervals are performed under a certain pre-load like TTE x 50%
For racing it is good to know how much is left in the tank or for a BT to push just a little more.
BTW. For the TTE data Field there is a “recovery watt” setting. I misunderstood the purpose of that, and set it to zero. The effect of this setting is a “time to recover at recovery_watt”, so for Zwift racing your normal “in the peloton drafting watt” is maybe a better value.
Thanks, would have had a use for the mpa and tte again today
Did the Tour of Watopia - and as usual, these end up being races → Final sprint started 1km before the finish and … yea, that’s not for me, but regardless, I see someone sprinting - I go! I realized very fast that I’ll burnout, and did then an bit too slow roll to the finish → Hit a breakthrough in the end but a very minor one - I had easily still strength left for a bigger bt.
But I have a feeling the workouts (Xert and otherwise) are definitely working for me → the Race pace felt like an … ‘ok’ workout for me. I’ve done plenty of workouts which were already overall tougher than this ‘race’ (airquotes since it was not a real race, but the front group did push hard - I did an average of ~300w for the whole race).
