Is there some way to force reset my Fitness Signature from a specific date moving forward? I need to do this because I only recently have all my power meters synced, which resulted in lower numbers across the board since I matched them all to my new trainer (which produces lower values). I could edit all my data, essentially re-calibrating the power for every single file, but this would obviously be very time-consuming even with some automation.
I had hoped it would just work itself out over time, and suspect it will, but I’m impatient. It seems like this would be a useful thing to be able to do so there must be a way. I only see Recalculate from Last Breakthrough for Signature Decay and Reset/Recalculate Entire Progression - neither of which seems to be what I really need.
I believe you can go to the Profile Settings page and click on Add under Activities with Locked Signatures. There you can specify a signature for an activity. This signature will be used for all following activities.
I don’t think that’s what I’m after unless you are suggesting I set everything to zero?
Maybe I didn’t pose the question quite right. For various reasons, power meter calibration and health issues, I want my Fitness Signature to start from scratch on a specific date. I don’t know what it should be, I just know that I am dramatically failing all workouts with even modest intensity - basically any interval over TP for more than a few minutes.
After the power meter calibration, the Xert TP estimate did drop accordingly by an amount that seems about right (15-20 watts). I don’t have enough experience with the rest of my FS to know what values might makes sense.
So I really just want to know how to force Xert to start from scratch from a specific date. If that’s not possible, or recommended, what else could I try? I’ve already tried time off, twice in fact.
Basically you can open the date of whenever you’d like to “reset” your signature on and manually key in the PP, HIE, or TP that you’d like to use for that activity & SAVE your changes. Ideally it’s an activity that also includes some maximal efforts so you can use the EXTRACT button first to have Xert run it’s signature extraction on the max efforts in the activity to get the values really dialled in from the start.
This effectively treats the activity as a Breakthrough and the system will adjust your signature up/down based on your training load since then. If you really wanted to fully reset everything & only use the most recent data, then you could reset the account and only sync your activities since then & exclude all the previous data.
Your last suggestion should be called the “nuclear option!”
I might come close guessing PP and TP but not a chance my guess for HIE would be accurate so I’ll give the Extract, Save, and Pray method a shot, thanks!
All you need do is lowball the numbers then prove them wrong moving forward.
That will happen as soon as you accumulate activities that include maximal efforts – at any point along your power curve.
If health issues are a factor, I’d be free riding easy for a while ignoring the numbers (no workouts under ERG control). Or take a break from cycling if required.
When ready to add HIT, you can jump start your signature validation by riding a fitness test workout in Slope mode.
I just found a few more issues to fix before forcing a reset of my FS.
Some duplicate rides (due to recording both power meters at the same time to calibrate) re-appeared at some point after I deleted them. Most of the time Xert detected the duplicate and only saved one ride but sometimes it failed (because one app quit recording early) while other times the ride Xert saved wasn’t the one I decided to keep. It took a few duplicate rides for me to figure out the best way to record power data from 2 power meters yet still get credit for the workout!
I think the duplicates reappeared because I used Xert EBC to record data a few times and I only had Sync set to FROM Strava TO Xert. Later I enabled Sync in the other direction which caused the duplicates to reappear. I know I also had other trouble with the TrainerDay app that forced me to manually download my ride data and import it into Strava and/or Xert.
I do know exactly which ride is the first one with the power meters calibrated to match, so I can safely base any corrections I make on a FS extracted from that point on. I can’t be sure of the rides before that point because the power meter used is not shown in Strava or Xert. It may be in the FIT file itself though? I’ll look into that tomorrow. I did try to remember to add notes early in this calibration process but I don’t trust them. I do trust the data after calibration was noted.
Worst case this means Xert has still had over 2 weeks to sort things out and has not. I still don’t how significant the changes I made to my Profile Settings and Plan are so I’m trying to be patient but impossible workouts are extremely frustrating even when you can partially understand why they are being suggested. I’ve been hitting Adapt Forecast every time the evil red dot appears lately but still keep getting way too many high intensity workouts (2 in a row yesterday and today). I haven’t even been close to completing one for at least 2, maybe 3 weeks.
I deleted the duplicate workouts again and turned off Sync TO Strava (leaving just Sync FROM Strava) so it doesn’t happen again. Just means that when I do choose to use Xert EBC, which is very rarely, I have to manually upload the FIT file to Strava (which I still regard as my master ride data bank or whatever you want to call it).
Deleting the duplicates did result in the Adapt Forecast red dot (change in Availability that I see pretty much every single day and still don’t understand), so I did click Adapt Forecast again. I also added another click towards More Recovery. I suppose I should also just manually enter the HR Derived Metrics again since those are wacky (still investigating why), even though I’m not sure if HR is used anywhere.
I did get a more realistic Suggested Workout as a result (?) yesterday but I still failed the longer high intensity intervals. Looking back, that has pretty much been the case forever (my ability above threshold is pathetic). I think it’s been bothering me a lot more this time around because the Suggested Workouts have put a focus on it, perhaps due to all the changes in setting I’ve made but also more accurate power data spotlighting my weakness even more?
The health stuff has been an issue for quite a few months but I think I’m finally getting that worked out. So maybe just a perfect storm that got me really frustrated. I do think I would have been less frustrated if the Freshness slider were still available. At the very least I could have vented some frustration by moving that thing to the opposite of how Xert was saying I should have felt!
My FS really didn’t change much after Extracting and Saving - really just HIE went up. My HIE is apparently very low to begin with. I did a little more reading about that and have a slightly better understanding now. However, now I’m wondering if/when I should Delete that Locked Signature. At what point in time does it have little bearing on the Forecast?
PS. I’m still seeing plenty of weirdness IMO with Training Status showing all blue yet I’m crazy sore from the High Intensity workout yesterday. The TS used to be really accurate for me. Also see High Intensity workouts in my Planner for today and tomorrow yet Suggested Workout is 2 hours of Pure Endurance. The Pure Endurance makes sense and matches my true TS. High Intensity 3 days in a row makes no sense (and never does?)!
