Help with New signature

Hello. Im trying to understand how a breakthrough affects my Power curve/Signature.

This morning I set a new Power PR for 5 minutes during a hard start 5*5 workout. This starts at about my 2 minute power and fades to just over LT2 over the 5 minutes. I decided to go full beans on the last effort and got a 5 minutes at 387W (A lifetime best).

2 weeks ago I did a max effort up Alpe du Zwift - 47 minutes at 315W.

….and Yes, my peak power is truly terrible!! (Probably 900w on a good day, Ive hit 1000w once in my life). Could this be the issue as PP in my signature was 833w?

After todays breakthrough my whole signature has moved up, although my HIE has dropped slightly. I expected my HIE to rise as the effort was in the HIE bucket, However my threshold has gone up 24 Watts, which is unrealistic and is more like my 10 minute power.

I know I can discount the signature adjustment but how do I get my signature to reflect my increased capacity in HIE without having an effect on my threshold, or am I looking at the the wrong way

You sound quite similar to myself in having a high threshold in relation to your peak power, I’m also a diesel engine, used to time trial and the longer the course the better I did, however I wouldn’t ever win a sprint even if my life depended on it, no idea why, I just really struggle to put much out over 800 watts. When I have any doubts about my signature, I put my recent max efforts into the power curve calculator and see what it generates, sometimes that signature looks more like what I think it should be, so I put the generated values into an activity, extract and save it.

I’ve read on here, that immediately stopping when you get a breakthrough can sometimes result in a value that may not be 100% accurate, so in the case of the five minute effort you did, it might have been better if you’d have carried on peddling as hard as possible for as long as you could, even though this would mean the power dropping as you did so. I’ve had breakthroughs that have given me inflated or strange signatures when I’ve put an effort in up a climb and then suddenly run out of climb to carry on. Maybe that’s what has thrown things off a little in your case?
