Hammerhead Karoo 3 Xert

You need to side load Xert into K3 (not tested) and switch between apps during the ride.

Like explained above, hammerhead didn’t realised the sdk package yet. Xert have no way to create does fields inside the HH app.

Are there any plans to update the Xert app for the K3 if the SDK gets released?

I would imagine they would specifically release the SDK to get support for our app.

Just as a data point: I’ve been using Xert EBC on the Karoo 3 for indoor training. It installs fine via adb. Until SRAM unlocks the SDK, no datafields can be developed (no Ki2, no Xert, etc.). So you won’t be able to use Xert during a ride for now, unless you want to track via EBC.

Hi, what is the current status of Xert app and Xert datafields on karoo 3? It is possible to load datafieds somehow? I’m mainly interested in the fields when I run outside.

EDIT:
I just ask Hammerhead about that, there is the “fresh” statment:

Thank you for your question about the SDK for the Karoo.

We are yet to implement SDK capability on the Karoo. It is an ongoing project our product team is working on for the near future release, I do not have the timeline yet but we will release an SDK for the Karoo.

I know that several community members are waiting for the SDK! We appreciate your patience and interest in the new Karoo.

Thanks for the update @ketyas! We haven’t heard anything from them yet. I’m sure they’ll make a formal announcement when everything is ready.

And here it is now: GitHub - hammerheadnav/karoo-ext: Android library for Karoo System extensions and interactions

@ManofSteele assuming this works as expected, will the Xert data fields be ported over to the Karoo 3? I might get tempted by a Karoo 3 if there’s a decent Black Friday sale.

Is that is the official SDK for a Karoo 3?
Hard to tell since Hammerhead doesn’t distinguish between the original Karoo (which I assume is defunct) and the current model also known as Karoo, not to be confused with a Karoo 2.

It’s on official hammerhead GitHub account, and they are saying that it should replace old SDK for new and old devices, so I assume. Yes it is for Karoo 3 also.

Really looking forward to this coming to KAROO (3) SDK. I would also love to see Daily Workout ‘Export’ button (Paper aeroplane :airplane:), listing HH KAROO. Especially as Wahoo, Garmin, Zwift, are all there already.

OK so I got a Karoo 3. The way any 3rd party android app can now get loaded via the Karoo’s companion app is awesome.

Hopefully Xert’s ConnectIQ data fields can get ported over soon! Paging @dbrillha

BTW here are some very early Karoo-specific apps:

Is there a future XERT EBC for the K3? As a recent Karoo convert from Garmin I’m finding the only thing I miss about the Garmin are some of the XERT add-ons in ConnectIQ. As someone who does 99% of their workouts outside and is coming up on my 4 year anniversary with XERT, it would be a huge deal for me (selfishly speaking) to finally be able to do the SMART workouts outside.
Trying to run workouts on my phone outdoors has not been a good experience, so I’m hopeful a Karoo version of this would be a gamechanger.

I’m also waiting for this one. I’ve also changed from Garmin to Karoo, love Karoo, but miss MPA during my outdoor rides:(

I also miss the MPA on the latest Karoo, very useful on outside rides.

I have been disappointed that only MPA and XSS have been available as data fields on Karoo 2 - and I am not going to upgrade to new Karoo untill it will offer a better integration with Xert than what we have on Karoo 2.

Another +1 user here. I want to see MPA data fields in my KAROO 3. Hammerhead have put the ‘invite’ out to companies and developers to submit working Apps/date fields, yet XERT seem to slow on the uptake. Hoping this is sorted soon as I love my K3, XERT and deliberately avoid Garmin to fly against the wind.

Same here - would love to see Xert data on my Karoo 3. Adding a graph field showing the MPA graph (purple line), and some sort of indication when a breakthrough happens would be fantastic.

Hammerhead’s “extensions” seems like a testing ground at the moment.
Ideally the Karoo Store would be part of the equation in the future.
Perhaps HH is waiting to see what apps are most popular through the API first.

My n=1 guess is the following timetable develops over the upcoming months –

  1. The official stable version of Magic Buckets is released for Garmin Connect IQ. Old version of XSS Buckets is retired. [DONE]
  2. Xert Dashboard is updated and official version released.
  3. Xert moves on to coding XO players and EBC updates with XMB features and XFAI support starting with Android then iOS.
  4. If the updated EBC Android app works well with K3 the problem is solved.
If not, Dashboard and Magic Buckets editions for Karoo are a possibility since they includes all the important data fields and functionality.

WOTD could be added to K3 at anytime if Hammerhead provided this function themselves using Xert’s WOTD API. Would that be useful for many K users or is it not a big deal?
If Hammerhead is unlikely to do this, could a coder-on-bike provide this function by posting their project on Github? Any takers?

+1 for Xert datafields on the Karoo 3 … Actually getting rid of all my Garmin devices. Feels good after “years of dependence” … :money_mouth_face:
