I’ve been using buckets for a while. Somehow missed the announcement for the new Garmin field for the “dashboard”. I saw discussion about it on a forum post about the Garmin 1050 that I didn’t initially read because I don’t have a 1050 - still making the most of my 530.
I downloaded it today and really like it. It really improves visibility of your current power and shows some very useful information in a compact footprint. Also helps guide the user to breakthroughs. It even shows once you’ve hit a breakthrough and has a counter if you hit it more than once (got it up to 3). Only minor complaint was toggling screens back to the bucket display but after I got home I realized you can do a split 1/2 dashboard, 1/2 bucket screen that seems to keep the most useful info.
Based on my breakthroughs today, I know I can do quite a bit better (car pulled into the crosswalk as I approached on the 1st one, and ran out of hill on the other 2). I’m looking forward to getting even more out of this feature on some future rides.
These types of continual introduction of new features helps me justify the increase in cost that was recently announced. I’ve seen hints that some other new features are on the near horizon and I look forward to seeing how they can help me improve my training.
If anyone out there hasn’t tried the new dashboard and has a Garmin that is compatible, I’d highly recommend giving it a shot.
