I’m wondering if there is any advantage to extending the base period by starting 4 or 5 weeks early, just because I can. Presumably I can just alter the target event date and then move it back when the extra weeks are over.
Or am I just as well leaving it as pre-base and picking the rides I want?
There are diminishing returns the further out your event. The only cases where this can make sense is if you’re starting at a very low training load, say 1 star and need to get to 4 or 5 stars. This will take longer. If you’re at 2 or 3 and plan to add a star or 2, then 120 days in a structured, periodized plan is well-suited.
