Event Type - Recreational vs Competitive

I am training for two rides…the Strade Bianche Gran Fondo and Fausto Coppi Medio Fondo. While both events are timed, I am not sure what to pick for the event type…recreational or competitive. I am not trying to win, and the chance of that ever happening is worse than hitting the lottery. I notice when changing the type my readiness is better for recreational but I am not sure what the real impact is on my training.

readiness of course just changes because of what they’re assuming a competitive event will be like (big HIE and PP demands to follow attacks, climb hard etc) vs recreational.

Take a look at the breakdown of Low, High and Peak XSS it gives for the training plan for each option and that will tell you impact on training. Higher blue figures for recreational = more base riding, higher yellow or red = more interval work in training

In my experience often times they’re getting you to the same or similar training loads and proportions for each energy system but there could be slight variation to account for the above assumptions.
