Hi,
I suspect this is an user idiot issue but I cannot get buckets to update on my garmin 530. I have the new software on the garmin unit and it is linked as shown in the installation video. My issue is that if I load a new workout using Xert planner for the day (xert is linked to zwift, strava and garmin connect), and I open garmin connect on the iPhone, the current workout doesn’t upload to the unit. What am I doing wrong?
Does the dot not turn green or are low/high/peak values incorrect for the day?
Did you remove old version and install the latest Magic Buckets edition?
Is your goal to select and run a workout elsewhere such as on Zwift or use Magic Buckets instead which doesn’t require the workout itself but syncs to the selected workout’s specs.

I removed the first version and installed the new one, following the installation video. The dot is red until the countdown ends then it goes green but the specs loaded are the same ones in the first workout loaded when I set buckets up. I was planning to free ride in Zwift and fill up the buckets hopefully linked to my specs in my planned workout.
Are you using XATA or an XFAI forecast?
The buckets should reflect what’s shown on the Training page as the currently selected workout or the general advice specs if no workout is selected with XATA or chosen on the Planner with XFAI.
I am not sure XATA or XFAI mean as I am new to this. But I clicked on the title in the planner page for the day - it went to the workouts screen and I selected a workout and saved it. The workout then appeared in the planner window.
Magic Buckets doesn’t need the workout selected to run on its own, but relies on the workout specs such as Mixed Rouleur (6 minute power) and XSS comprised of low, high, peak strain points.
Or do you intend to run the selected workout on EBC (or elsewhere) while you monitor how Magic Buckets tallies XSS on your Garmin?
What is the workout you selected and what is shown for low, high, peak values compared to what Magic Buckets displays on your Garmin?
For example with the followig workout Magic Buckets should show 40 / 3.8 / .8 for low/high/peak and interval target watts will be around 6-minute power.
How long did you wait for it to fetch? On my ride yesterday it showed the wrong numbers for about 5 minutes until it finally updated with the newer numbers based on the workout I had selected for the day. Before that it had the previous numbers for the day.
Thank you for your responses. I’ll give more time I was stopping pretty quickly. Certainly not 5 mins. And I’ll read through the other materials later!
As @Garrick mentions if the first sync fails the app has to wait 300 secs until the next fetch attempt. This is a Garmin Connect IQ limitation.
If this happens you can start the ride with the wrong entries and once the fetch is successful the XMB screen will update to display the correct goal values with any XSS accumulated so far applied.
One thing I’m not clear about is whether Auto-pause should be disabled under Garmin settings when using XMB. I always ride with that function disabled.
I believe you also need 1 Sec data recording not Smart under the Garmin System settings.
I think one other difference with MB is it tries to pull your numbers once your unit is powered on. The older buckets waited until the start of an activity. Once I realized that, I have been powering on my Garmin 530 as soon as I start getting ready to ride. By the time I check tire pressure, load up the water bottles, put on my biking shoes, etc. it has normally already pulled the numbers.
