Breakthroughs - Clarification / Potential Issue?

Good Morning Xerties,

First up, I wanted to give a shout out to the magic bucket team, I literally just started using it last weekend, after coming across someone’s post on social media sprinking the product. What a game changer, especially for solo rides where you can do what you want. Filling up the bucket became a awesome game and I can see how it will become addictive in the future and potentially lead to burnout… Haha

With regards to the Xert breakthrough feature, I watched the online videos from zert themselves I think it was called tutorials or masterclass, irrespectively I was able to obtain 2x breakthroughs of which the little gold medallion with the red ribbon from the bottom popped up on the Garmin screen, as per attached photo. I was able to do this on the first occasion using magic buckets externally so outside and internally indoor.

Now what I don’t understand is is that my last breakthrough states that my last breakthrough was one month ago, ironically stating that my fitness signature is stale….

I know that I had the breakthroughs because I was actively attempting to achieve the breakthrough via lowering my MPA lower than my actual power output for longer than five seconds (shout out to the developers for creating this insane tool! :fire:).

Ironically, when I reviewed the power chart from Xert website it showed that the purple MPA line didn’t reach the power line, however the MPA line on the same power chart uploaded directly to Zwift showed it crossing; very odd.

So my question is is what I believe I obtained an actual breakthrough or something else or is there an issue with the system not picking up the breakthrough?

It is very likely that the Garmin sensed MPA below power for 5 seconds (or more) whereas when the data is uploaded to the server that doesn’t see the same thing. The crucial thing when going for a BT is to hold it for longer than you think is necessary - just in case

Xert apps and data fields can’t match the second-by-second analysis precision and filtering performed on XO server when you upload a recording.
As mentioned, your best bet is to keep pushing beyond the medallion appearance to a point of total failure – if you can.
If you do that but no BT badge on server, you’ve still validated your signature as a close match.

Another possibility (especially if current signature is understated) is multiple BTs on XMB which converts to a single BT on server. I.e. the one with the most oomph. You can see how close the other efforts were by selecting the Previous button below the power chart.

@ridgerider2 & @johnnybike,

It happened again today. Blasted my MPA for over a minute today, same thing! The Xert MPA line is nowhere near my actual power output!!!

I have a video showing me holding it for over 10s+, of which the two MPA & Power Outputs then come together as the same (250w) for about a minute after. Shae I can’t upload a video.

Note the difference in teh MPA line in the first photo, with red markup, compared to the FORECAST AI REPORT (Strava upload). The latter still shows a BT, whilst the former is miles off.

Could someone from Xert kindly review & advise?

Theres nothing in the Forecast AI Report that indicates a breakthrough. It looks exactly the same as the first photo.

Hmm… Something sounds not right with the setup. Are you using the MPA & Power data field for ConnectIQ? Did you enter your Xert user/pass into the ConnectIQ data field settings? If not, the data field will use a generic/default signature with a TP of 250, rather than using your unique fitness signature. Given your TP looks to be higher than 250, I’m guessing that’s the issue.

Check out this support doc and follow the steps under Signing Into the Xert Data Fields

@ManofSteele,

I reckon you’ve hit the nail on the head! I’ll look into this & report back. It was reading 250, so that should hopefully be it. Thank you!

@Elcomp,

Please kindly get your eyes checked :pray:

Magic Buckets does not require the extra step of entering username/pw in Garmin Connect to authorize the MPA data field to retrieve your current signature.
If a signature fetch fails with the MPA data field, PP will also display with a default value of 1200.
Magic Buckets alerts you when you are about to achieve a BT and also displays a BT medallion if you do (subject to final analysis online).

When a BT is confirmed, you’ll see a BT badge under Activity details.
BTreportIcon
Tapping that will generate a special BT report (Strava upload instead of XFAI report). Example:

To view your BT details (where MPA was exceeded or flatlined) select the Previous button below the Activity’s power chart. Example:

My eyesight is just fine :slight_smile:

As you know, for a breakthrough the MPA line need to cross the power graph. That is not the case in your last photo.
