Breakthrough Test with Zwift Ride

For those of you who own a Zwift Ride (or Zwift Cog without a cassette), how do you do the Breakthrough Fitness tests?

I was thinking of uploading the workout to the EBC app, but letting Zwift handle the power control so I can shift gears virtually (like riding outdoors). How do you manage this?

Hi Harry,

Since no one else has chimed in yet, I thought I would share my experience. You’re correct - virtual shifting isn’t supported in the EBC app, so if you want to use virtual gears, it’s best to have your trainer paired to Zwift via Bluetooth. You could then start the workout in the EBC app and use your virtual gears (in Zwift) to control your efforts during the workout. It’s best to do these efforts not in ERG mode, so this is generally a good solution.

Personally, I have found that Zwift racing works great to help assess changes in my fitness compared to doing any fitness test of sorts. To me, it feels more practical than following a structured workout - most of the breakthroughs were achieved with hard efforts trying to generate (or hold a Breakaway effort) or sprints on the line. I’ve lost count of the number of BT/Near-BT efforts over the last 3 months… I think it’s well over 20 by now

Using Magic Buckets makes those races very efficient - I hit my XSS training targets for the day & have a chance to generate a breakthrough!

Cheers!

Thank you for your reply. This morning I loaded the workout into Zwift and turned off ERG mode. I also tracked the Magic Buckets with my Karoo. Here’s the result:
