Bit of a tangential topic. Basically, haven’t ridden in months and months because I moved to the other side of the world and no longer have a backyard or any outdoor space to wash my bike in and it is well and truly due.
I’ve never had to manage this in a flat before and am struggling to get a set-up so I can ride again. Does anyone have experience and can help??
So far I’ve measured and know I’ll need to take both wheels off to fit it over the bath. I’m imagining a stand where the feet sit on either side of the bath and need either a chainkeeper or a stand like this Bicisupport - Dal 1976. But I am driving myself mad trying to work out which ones are the right size, grip on feet etc. The bath is about 63 cm across with then 5 cm on each side for the feet to sit in-case someone already has worked out the dream set-up.
But the main trick for me was to be on top of the chain cleaning to avoid big mess. I switched to wax based lube - this was the single most effective thing to make “washing the bike in a flat” easier.
On wet days I also poured clean water on the bike as soon as I was getting home. Just a 1.5L bottle will do. This removes the road grime before it dries
