Can someone explain the rules for deciding the name and/or source of an activity? I simultaneously started a plan and connected to zwift and since then my activities get named based on difficulty, specificity and focus, e.g.: “Easy Polar Endurance Ride”. Maybe it’s completely irrelevant with the connection to zwift or starting the plan.
I personally prefer to have the activity using the same name as the source that xert used to sync. This way I can match them. I already have difficulty, specificity and focus in my activity data and I can see them on lists or details.
Is this something I can control? I did not find anything in the settings. Looks like if I delete the activity and re-sync it from strava, it gets the strava name (which strava got from zwift).
I will try disabling zwift activity sync (though I prefer not to depend on strava).
As a conclusion, I would say that it would be great to have the difficulty, specificity and focus information in the description rather than the name or have it configurable.
As you’ve found out, Xert renames rides based on calculated metrics like Difficulty Rating, Specificity, and Focus Type (e.g., Moderate Polar GC Specialist Ride). This is why you’re seeing a different name in Xert compared to what appears in Zwift.
I presume that your rides are coming directly from Zwift. The reason for the title discrepancy is that Zwift’s new training API doesn’t currently send us the activity (or workout) title, so Xert defaults to its own naming convention instead. We’ve asked Zwift to include the activity title in future updates, but for now, this is how it works.
As you’ve discovered, if you’d like to retain the original title from Zwift, you can disable the direct sync between Zwift and Xert. To do this, go to the Sync > Zwift page and turn off the “Sync Activities” option. This will allow your Zwift rides to sync to Strava first and then from Strava to Xert, keeping the original title intact. This approach only works if you are using Strava, obviously.
Personally, I prefer letting Xert sync directly from Zwift to Xert, then let Xert push the ride to Strava (with a Forecast AI training report and summary). If I want to keep the Zwift title, I just copy and paste it from Zwift feed to Xert, and it automatically updates Strava.
Thank you so much for the detailed response. I indeed figure some of these but not all and your explanation clarifies this very well. No more trial and error!
That sounds very cool! I missed this or did not set it up correctly I will try it.
Ah - I should also clarify that I do not have my Strava account connected to Zwift. This forces the completed activity to go Zwift > Xert and then Xert pushes to Strava. HTH!
